The Seat Filler

The Seat Filler A Novel

Sariah Wilson2021
Dog groomer Juliet was asked to be a seat filler at an awards show and ended up next to the famous Noah Douglas, the movie heartthrob and actor of her dreams. Noah expresses romantic interest in Juliet, but due to her fear of kissing, she refuses him. Instead, she agrees to be friends. They shouldn't have anything in common, but they seem to form a connection that starts to feel a lot like love.

It felt like an obvious self-insert while reading and made me feel icky at times. Then I read the acknowledgments and it made it even more apparent.

A cute love story, but now knowing the author wrote the main character after Adam driver makes this just creepy

I am going to preface this with saying that I am not a reylo like the author and the majority of these five stars are, I do like Adam Driver, and I do enjoy a good AD x insert fic every once in a while when the stars align and it's not cringe worthy. I have also read a few of the author's previous works and didn't hate them. But, boy, oh boy. This is bad. The excessive advertising that it was inspired by Adam should have been a huge red flag. It is. It pushed me away from this book, but, curiosity killed the cat and all of that. Because, really, I've read self insert fic, this couldn't possibly be that bad? Chemistry is terribly forced. Thinly veiled Star Wars opinions are terribly obnoxious. (TL;DR: tlj is not my favorite ST. Yes, it's better than TRoS, but, it doesn't take much. The Room is better than TRoS. ) The odds to personal details in AD's life may be endearing to some, but, very cringey and stalkery. At least make an attempt to shield the fact it's a self insert like the rest of us? Don't go parading around the man's name in your marketing for your fic, I mean novel, because it's poorly written and otherwise would not be doing well. You know, I was going to make this longer, point out all the issues. But I'm tired. I can't be bothered to waste my time on this anymore. Go to Ao3, or even Wattpad, and read your more flavorful AD self inserts there, it'll be a better time, I promise.
