The Sentinel (Jack Reacher 25)
Reviews

Love the Reacher series. However, after reading this book I am, sadly, not a fan of the author collaboration. The complexity of the story was very artificial and forced - and impossible to follow. I got to the point that I no longer tried to follow the story and just wanted it to end.

The brothers wrote this together. I think it's pretty good. Will buy next one too.

Enjoyed the plot (at least towards the end), hated the character. Jack Reacher just comes off as overly arrogant and someone who can’t keep his mouth shut, which put me off this book a lot

If you were turned off by the bloodbath from the last book, never fear -- the real Jack Reacher has returned! And I don't understand all the "blah" comments about it! Lee Child brought in a co-author for the first time, his brother Andrew Grant (Child), whom Lee called "Reacher's first fan". So, to me, he brought Reacher back from the mess that "Blue Moon" was. I don't like the idea of co-authors, but as Lee said, "I've done 25 of these books, and I'm ready to pass the character on to someone who really understands Reacher". I can appreciate that. The gripes people have -- he uses a cellphone! He drives! And he talks! More than three or four words! God forbid! Get over yourselves, people. These were tiny tweaks to the character that were minor compared to the improvement of the overall story, from beginning to end. He protects an IT guy in a small town where a foreign entity is trying to get a server from him. He beats up bad guys, joins forces with other players to get to the bottom of the threat. Classic Reacher -- moved into the second decade of the 21st century.

What an absolute disappointment. Andrew Child does not understand Reacher or he is deliberately changing the character to match his own vision of him going forward. Every conversation was weird and wrong. The fight scenes are comically bad and not even close to plausible. This whole book feels like childish fan fiction.
