That was beautiful. The best in the series. It pulled the emotional intensity from the first book, the beautiful blending of characters, the starkness of the world, the suddenness of death, EVERYTHING THAT WAS GOOD FROM ALL THE PREVIOUS BOOKS AND MADE IT THAT MUCH BETTER.

I kind of really want another one, too.

I finally shipped Miranda and Alex.

It was both purposeful and purposeless. 

It was beautiful, and I want another one to ruin it.

This is the fourth book in the series that began with the book Life as We Knew It. I loved the first two books in this series and the third one was good. I did not know until recently that a fourth book was coming out, so when I had a chance to grab it to review, I had to get a copy.

In this book, two years have passed since book 3. Jon is living with his stepmother Lisa and his half brother Gabe in a better town than White Birch--where his mother, sister Miranda and brother in law Alex are still living in poverty. Jon has food to eat, clean air to breathe and attends a decent school. He has begun to take this all for granted until he meets Sarah, the new girl, who questions why everyone should not have these things. Jon and Sarah fall for each other but he has to be careful that he doesn't break the rules by taking her side. During the book, Jon realizes what the true priorities are but that does not happen without great cost.

I enjoyed this installment in the series. This book bounced the series back in my estimation. It had action, romance, and a plot that kept me riveted from start to finish. The ending leaves enough of an opening that a book five could happen....and I hope it does.

Can Jon risk doing what is right in a world gone so terribly wrong?

This is it! It’s the final book in the Life As We Knew It Series and I have feelings! Not a lot of them, but enough! Going into this book you’ll notice the voice is of Jon, Miranda’s younger brother, and it’s written in the same diary format but from third person like how Alex’s book was. The world was excellently well developed. The story plot and pacing are pretty well done and the writing is really well done in terms of making the book sound like it’s from Jon’s point of view.

However, there are some problems with this book. The characters are just thrown into this world without rhyme or reason, some characters were disposed of for little or no reason whatsoever. There were unnecessary plot twists that didn’t need to be in there. The previous main characters disappeared at the end of the book and nothing was really solved in the book. In essence, this wasn’t a satisfying ending for me and I’m slightly disappointed in this book.

Verdict: Read the ending, but don’t expect anything spectacular.
