I struggled and struggled, but ultimately could not finish this book. There were aspects of it that were interesting, but other elements were very disturbing and uncomfortable for me to continue reading. I enjoyed the premise of the book - a woman stays in an old house while she works on a writing project - but the sexual nature of the story was ridiculous and beyond belief. So - I gave up.

I loved her Rizzoli & Isles series (read them all, even though I felt like the last book in the series - she has completed the series - was written in order to wrap up loose ends and there was no love for the characters anymore in the writer's heart), but a lot of her standalones leave me cold.

Ava is a great food blogger but a crappy sister. She feels immense guilt at her part in the tragedy which changed her sisters life. She has secluded herself on the Maine Coast to finish her latest book. Along with her huge cat, there are a couple of carpenters also rattling around at the house due to the building work going on.

While happily trying out recipes on her willing guinea pigs, Ava begins to feel uneasy. She seems to have a...ghostly visitor but can't tell if they are there to help her or scare her! Add in 2 very handsome men who are vying for her affections and all of a sudden we are in a Gothic Romance!

There are some triggers on this book of sexual assault/rape, kidnapping/abduction - so please keep these in mind. Great atmospheric writing and a tense storyline. As a lover of Rizzoli and Isles this was a completele different feel of book and I heartily enjoyed it!

The Shape of Night by Tess Gerrittsen is an interesting thriller, and a concept that is not utilized as often as it could be. I really appreciated the atmosphere of the story as well as the message surrounding regret and death. 

I give The Shape of Night 4.5/5 stars.

Some moments were truly spooky, some were just confusing... not sure I liked the whole "punishment" line.
All in all, an enjoyable read for me, liked the prose.

This book was probably a 2,5 stars. I expected much more of Gerritsen, but it wasn't the worst either. The characters were well written and the atmosphere was on point, but the mix between psychological thriller and supernatural was just not it. At least for me. It felt like it wasn't really going anywhere. I couldn't pitch this book to any Spanish publishers. Sorry.
