Meine Meinung: Zeitgenössische Romane, besonders solche, die in der Jugendbuchabteilung stehen, brauchen eine Besonderheit, die mich zum Lesen bringt und diese Geschichten lieben lässt. Ein bisschen wie Unendlichkeit besitzt diese Besonderheit, denn die Protagonistin, Gottie, liebt Physik und das hat mich Nerd natürlich direkt angezogen. Gottie erlebt eine Zeit des Umschwungs. Im vergangenen Sommer hat sich bei ihr sehr viel geändert und dieser Sommer erwartet sie mit einer Menge neuer Veränderungen. Letztes Jahr verlor sie ihren Großvater, dieses Jahr sieht sie ihren Kindheitsfreund nach vielen Jahren wieder. Wir begleiten Gottie für einen Sommer und sehen zu, wie sie mit diesen vielen, neuen Situationen umgeht.
Ich liebte es, Gottie zuzuhören. Sie hat einen einzigartigen Humor und entwickelt sich im Verlauf der Geschichte sehr schön. Sie wächst an ihren Fehlern, lernt daraus und wird trotzdem nie perfekt. Auch Thomas, den Gottie nach vielen Jahren wiedersieht, habe ich sofort ins Herz geschlossen. Gemeinsam bringen die beiden so viel Charme zustande, dass man nicht mehr mit dem Lesen aufhören möchte. Gotties Geschichte hat mich dabei auf eine ganze besondere Art berührt, denn sie ist irgendwie einzigartig und bleibt immer unvorhersehbar.
Die Physik nimmt einen besonderen Platz in der Geschichte ein. Gottie ist sehr begabt, was das angeht, vergleicht viele Sachen mit physikalischen Phänomenen und ihre Liebe zu dieser Wissenschaft schwingt auf unzähligen Seiten mit. Ich ticke ebenfalls ein wenig wie Gottie und habe die zahlreichen Anspielungen genossen. Aber auch für alle, die Mathe und Physik nicht besonders mögen, lohnt sich dieser Roman. Die Physik wird hier von ihrer schönen Seite gezeigt und bleibt größtenteils doch nebensächlich.

Warum nur größtenteils? Ich mag es eigentlich nicht, wenn in vermeintlichen zeitgenössischen Romanen plötzlich ein Fantasyaspekt auftaucht. Das war auch in Ein bisschen wie Unendlichkeit der Fall und doch hat er mich hier nicht gestört, denn die Fantasy bewegt sich auf einem schmalen Grad zwischen tatsächlicher Fantasy und Physik und das fand ich persönlich sehr spannend. Man fragte sich ständig, ob das wirklich sein kann und es gab dem Buch eine besondere Note. Somit wurde Ein bisschen wie Unendlichkeit für mich beinahe perfekt. Einzig das Ende mochte ich nicht so sehr.
Fazit: Ein bisschen wie Unendlichkeit konnte mich mit der gelungenen Mischung aus zeitgenössischem Roman und Physik begeistern und besonders Gottie und Thomas habe ich dabei in mein Herz geschlossen. Mit wundervollen Worten erzählt Harriet Reuter Hapgood über die Freundschaft, Liebe und über Vaterrollen und wo man sie finden kann. Allein das Ende hat für mich das Buch nicht komplett abrunden können. Sonst war ich begeistert.

I'm confused. I'm so very confused by this book. I don't know how to put into words my thoughts without saying too much. I mean, I expected a YA contemporary.... and it is... but it's also a really cool sci-fi book. I know you won't believe that unless you read it. It's for that reason I'm confused as the usual thoughts I have when reviewing a book don't apply as I usually have certain things I look for in a YA contemporary and it had it, but it had all this other stuff too. It was strange. I'm trying to get over the strange and think of words... I'll get back to you with a review.

As someone who failed maths all through high school I must say, there's just too much math on this book.

I was attracted to this because of the time travelling. But I never thought it'd imply so much physics and thinking. I admired the author, I really do. 

The plot of this book is both simple and extremaly difficult (for those of us who don't understand a thing about maths and physics). Even with the time jumping/travelling, the plot is well paced and developed. I found it to be more about Gottie and her relationships and interactions than anyhting else. 

Gottie is a lovely character. She's confused and lost and grivieng. But she's also stubborn and very intelligent. I liked her a lot. As well as the secondary characters. Speacilly Ned and Thomas.

The Square Root of Summer is a cute story about family and friends and love. Definitely summery. A quick and very good read. I enjoyed it a lot.

A smidge confusing. Tbh I was, more than once, lost in how and where we were in the story. The only thing I would've done differently is make the book a little less complicated for us not that physic-related talented. Other than that, INCREDIBLE storyline and plot. Loved the character development.

I'm not a mathematician, so I got kinda confused at some parts in this book. Gottie, however, was a great character, as were Sof, Thomas, and Ned!! I recommend this book if you're one of those mathy type of people, because I'm certainly not!!!!

I think a good word to describe this book would be confusing. One minute I thought I was beginning to understand it and then the next I would find myself lost again. That being said, I did enjoy it. I just didn't love it. The romance was cuteish and the story interestingish, but on the whole, I just didn't find myself entirely invested in either the characters or the story. To be honest, I think possibly the main reason for this, was simply because all the scientific, mathematical stuff was a little lost on me. :') (Sadly, those two subjects have never been my strong point.) This was an enjoyable and interesting read, and there were moments in the writing that were honestly gorgeous but unfortunately, on the whole, this book wasn't really for me.
