Named a BEST BOOK OF FALL 2019 by People Magazine, Boston Globe, BookBub, PopSugar, CrimeReads and more. "Brilliant.... A well-crafted psychological thriller." --The New York Times Book Review Even good people are drawn to do evil things... Twelve-year-old Rain Winter narrowly escaped an abduction while walking to a friend's house. Her two best friends, Tess and Hank, were not as lucky. Tess never came home, and Hank was held in captivity before managing to escape. Their abductor was sent to prison but years later was released. Then someone delivered real justice--and killed him in cold blood. Now Rain is living the perfect suburban life, her dark childhood buried deep. She spends her days as a stay-at-home mom, having put aside her career as a hard-hitting journalist to care for her infant daughter. But when another brutal murderer who escaped justice is found dead, Rain is unexpectedly drawn into the case. Eerie similarities to the murder of her friends' abductor force Rain to revisit memories she's worked hard to leave behind. Is there a vigilante at work? Who is the next target? Why can't Rain just let it go? Introducing one of the most compelling and original killers in crime fiction today, Lisa Unger takes readers deep inside the minds of both perpetrator and victim, blurring the lines between right and wrong, crime and justice, and showing that sometimes people deserve what comes to them.

3.35⭐ Lisa has incredible power in her words. She got me hooked from the very first page.
The chapters will jump from one narrator to another & one time line to another, without warning which I didn't like at first but 3 chapters in and I was loving it, figuring out who is speaking and when. Figured who the killer was from the first 4-5 chapters only, which any average reader would. By chapter 10, I was most certain. And that's the reason I kept going - it seemed too simple, and l wanted to know if I was right or wrong. By chapter 15-18, some more developments happened, but what i thought was still right. After that, it was like I already know the end, just wanted to knw how this is going to go down. What exactly happened in the past. It was more and less a question of the "pyschology" behind it.

The plot was not amazing tho. Simple, predictable. That's the reason y even after being well written, there were times I was distracted, which shouldn't be happening for a thriller.
