„The Strings of Murder“ ist der erste Band einer mehrteiligen Krimireihe des mexikanischen Autors Oscar de Muriel, der nach England zog und sich dort zu seinen Büchern inspirieren ließ.

So verwundert es nicht, dass die Geschichte ganz klassisch bei Jack the Ripper seinen Ausgang nimmt, dann aber für den Protagonisten überraschend nach Schottland wandert.
Dort begegnen wir einem „locked-room mystery“, also dem eigentlichen unmöglichen Mord, den nun das ungleiche Paar Frey und McGray lösen muss.

Wer britische Krimis liebt, wird Gefallen an dieser Serie finden.
Das Rätsel selbst ist nicht besonders schwer zu lösen, allerdings birgt es einige interessante Aspekte und liebevoll beschriebene Charaktere, die einem schnell ans Herz wachsen und immer wieder zum Schmunzeln bringen.

„The Strings of Murder“ ist eine nette, kleine Geschichte für zwischendurch. Ich denke, ich werde auch die Folgebände nach und nach lesen.

This book absolutely blew my mind! I wasn't entirely sure what I was getting into when I randomly picked it up, but I'm so glad that I did. This book has all of my favourite murder mystery tropes. That is a Sherlock Holmes vibe, a mystery that may or may not be paranormal, unlikely friendships, and so much more. Then, as if this book couldn't get any better, I find out it's a series! I can not wait to read about the next fantastic mystery Oscar de Muriel has to offer!

An unusual duo, a series of unusual crimes and a vivid setting. I really enjoyed it, and I'll definitely pick up the next one when it is available at my library!

This novel was one that I had my eye on for a while, the blurb didn’t give away too much but it did imply a good mystery:

‘Edinburgh, 1888. A virtuoso violinist is brutally killed in his home. Black magic symbols cover the walls. The dead man’s maid swears she heard three musicians playing before the murder.

But with no way in or out of the locked practice room, the puzzle makes no sense…’

This immediately hooked me and had me wanting to join in on the journey of the mystery. This novel did comprise the perfect elements for a crime thriller; employees that hate each other, a small community of suspects and the many questions. However, I felt that these were all a little too obvious in their conformity to the genre.
