Her brother has to be one of the worst characters I've read in a while. Almost caused me to DNF, but I pushed through.

The summer after you and me: I really liked this book. I live in long island and i thought this book used the fact of hurricane sandy as a way to relate it back to the relationship that started during this storm. I liked the character of Lucy and how much she went through in this novel. It made me so sad the lucy almost lost her house. I did like the romance was well. It was fun quick read and really fun read.

Lisa: Right off the bat I got the best summertime vibe from this book. The cover is summery perfection, and I knew from the synopsis I wanted to read this. (I even had it as a WoW pick!) So I was so excited to read this. Books like this are always better as buddy reads. :)

Becca: I definitely agree! The Summer feel of this book was absolute perfection! I felt almost as though I could feel the warm sun on my face and the ocean breeze blowing through my hair! I think that the ocean was probably the best part of this novel over all!

Lucy is our main character and she lives on the Jersey Shore (have no fear there are no Snooki’s or JWow’s in this novel!) Lucy has such a love for the ocean and wants to be a Marine Biologist. Her love of the ocean combined with the addition of the destruction and rebuilding after Hurricane Sandy in this story really hit home for me. Being a resident of the East Coast and knowing the devastation the Hurricane caused I liked that Salvato-Dokorski brought this subject to light through Lucy and these characters.

Lisa: I agree. I remember Hurricane Sandy well, and it was great to see so much emphasis put on that part of the story.

I also really liked the little snippets at the start of each chapter, fun little animal biology facts from a thesis Lucy was writing. Some made me smile, and a few even made me cringe. lol

Becca: I loved those little snippets too! They were so fun and admittedly a little gross sometimes too! I find the ocean so mystical so learning facts about the different sea animals was very cool!

Lisa: There was definitely a lot of fun in this book… but I also had a few issues with it. Mainly, the flow of this story felt a little choppy at times, almost sloppy. The story just seemed to be all over the place. :-/

Becca: Sadly I agree about the flow of the story, about half way through I told you that something was just not sitting right and when you mentioned that it was choppy I knew that was it! This story flip flops between the past (before the Hurricane) and present (after the hurricane to current time). It did feel a but disjointed and ultimately didn’t flow well for me. At times I was a bit confused, but I also felt the relationships of the characters didn’t develop right because of the inconsistent flow of the story.

Lisa: I know you mentioned feeling it around the halfway point, but I honestly felt that choppiness from the beginning. I kept hoping it would flow more freely, but it really didn’t. The ending also seemed a bit random, but I actually liked it more than the beginning. (It’s hard to explain without spoilers, but you know what I mean.
