The Summer of Broken Rules
Reviews

It’s just very predictable.

I don’t usually read romance but this was very sweet, a good light summer book. But him being named Stephen made me so uncomfortable because I just finished Tell me Lies, so every time she would call him Stephen, I would Imagine Stephen Demarco instead of Wit Witry, and it made me want to puke. Because Stephen Demarco makes me SICK

3⭐️ - This book was very Taylor Swift coded and I was here for it. It was a really good fluffy rom-com. Even though at first I thought the FMC and MMC would be older and even though they fell in love in 7 days (?). I don’t understand how you do that but it’s also a book. It was entertaining and it was fluffy. What I am grateful, for is for the lack of smut or instant lust between them. I mean yeah they both fell in love in a few days but they are kids so idk it makes sense. It was a good palate cleanser after reading Billy Summers.

Cute summer read.

This book was just okay. I think the writing could've been a little more descriptive but I enjoyed the story. Just a cute and easy summer romance novel.

this book made me want to rent a beach house and buy water guns

4.5 stars ⭐️ I cry now because they are so cutee. Of course Hey Stephen is the song of this book

An excellent summer romance. Very grown-up camp vibes, which I loved. Excellent setting. Loved it!

how i would love to be a grandmother named honey and have a large beach house that all my relatives visit each summer

I loved every single taylor swift references made in this book. Maybe because I’m like Sarah. Or maybe I just loved Wit.

This book surprised me! The main character is so mature. I loved the big family vibes, it reminded me of my childhood vacations!

This honestly might be one of my favorite books i’ve read. This is honestly such an amazing book and a perfect summer romance read.

this was sooo cute

** spoiler alert ** I thought it was light read, appropriate for the Summer! However, I think 13-year-old Teresa would have been much happier reading this book! 😂 Very predictable and I think the romance part could have been explored in another way. It was fast, yet a part of me understands why Mer fell like that for Wit! Loved the family dynamic of the entire Fox family! I really enjoyed it! I think that's what made me want to keep reading until the end. Although predictable, I always thought she was going to end up with Wit in New Zealand!

This book is so cute!! The plot, and the characters were amazing. It's definitely a perfect summer romance read, however, my expectations were so high, and I was kind of disappointed with the insta-love. But considering it's a YA romance, the insta-love was expected (insta-love are just not my cup of tea). I love the Taylor Swift references tho. Definitely a recommend if you want a cute, and fast romance book!

usually i’m not a fan of instalove but this shit was so cute, and the taylor references really sold it. killer and stephen forever <3

** spoiler alert ** i’d like to start by saying that i didn’t have any expectations abt this at all. just randomly saw it on booktok & as a sucker for romance books w taylor swift references, ofc i had to read it. i just let the story unfold before my eyes & it’s a good decision bc i can tell u that i had a wonderful time reading this. the book is so comforting. so carefree. so heartfelt. the setting is probably my favorite aspect of this book. if only i have the power to get transported to the farm, i will do so undoubtedly. there’s something so magical abt the place, and what makes it even more alive & wonderful is the people. their family is just so so cool & it feels like i have become one of them too. their tight-knit bond is smth i wish i have. it must be so nice to be a part of smth like this :’) also, the portrayal of grief is so :( it’s so gentle & beautiful. i feel like i have known claire personally too bc of how mer talks abt her. and i also felt how much claire loved her sister 🥹 what keeps me from rating this a full 5 is bc of how frustrating it got at some point. maybe it’s just me, but there were some parts where i found it difficult to understand the actions & intentions of the characters. also, i was not really a fan of how fast things happened between mer & wit (this proved to me that im really a slowburn gurlie) but, again, i think it’s just a matter of preferences. i still really loved their relationship & how special their connection is (really heartwaming plot twist w claire setting them up way way before they met)! claire is absolutely right when said that they’d be perfect for each other & that the fates have finally aligned. im telling u i have a compilation of every moment mer called wit his first name (my heart jumped out of joy everytime mygOd) 🥹 it also made me happy reading the epilogue & seeing how they survived long distance while growing individually too. it was a bonus that they were back at the farm, creating more memories w each other & with their big family. overall, it was a really adorable & heartwarming read. i feel like it’s going to be even more fun & lovelier the second time around. i’ll make sure to visit the farm again soon! thank you, meredith fox & stephen oscar witry 🫶

I loved this book. I found that I really understood the character, as someone who has lost a sibling and had to continue life with a missing part of myself. Those around you continue on, when you are left behind, not knowing how to go on, wondering how everyone can just move on without them.
Finding normalcy after losing a sibling is very difficult and can sometimes take years, but I'm happy to finally have found some for myself and that the character found theirs so quickly.
This book was very good. It's what I like to call my weekend books: I read all the good and addicting books during the weekend so that I won't be tortured when I have to go to work and take a break from it.
Overall, five stars!

WOW!

Beautiful story and very cute characters. I loved how Meredith and Wit just clicked so well from the beginning. The game of Assassin really helped add a whole other layer to the storyline. I also loved how little background memories with Claire were incorporated all throughout the book, it really helped understand where Meredith was coming from. Overall, a great book and very adorable characters. I loved all their personalities!

Listening to Taylor’s Fearless whilst reading this one = the perfect combination 🤌🏼

Good summer read. Got me out of a reading slump <3

- meredith is SO annoying (i'm def team lulli when they fought) - claire, meredith's sister, and wit have met each other previously and i thought it would've made more sense for wit to have been in love with claire and not end up with meredith but maybe that's just me? - i honestly almost dnf-ed this but all the taylor swift references got me through it. - I GOT SECOND HAND EMBARRASSMENT FOR MEREDITH WHEN I READ THIS: "tell me about when you were younger," i randomly said. wit raised an eyebrow. "when i was younger?" "yeah, like when you were in high school." "so barely two years ago?"
