It took me way longer than I expected to finish this book. Kim Barker was admittedly lacking direction in her life at the start of the book but I kind of felt like she was lacking direction throughout. Personal anecdotes interrupt the flow of the war and politics and seem out of place. I kept asking myself "Soooo the point of this is..???" She's seems knowledgable about the Middle East and I have a lot of respect for her and the time she spent in Pakistan and Afghanistan. But I'm not sure what really came of it.

I really thought I would like this book. I really wanted to. But I'm happy I get to read something else now.
