Foster's books take place in the Humanx Commonwealth, an interstellar empire governed jointly by humans and aliens. There are two series that take place in the Humanx world, The Founding of the Commonwealth and The Pip and Flinx novels. The Founding of the Commonwealth series deals with the early days of the Commonwealth and how it almost didn't come to be. The Pip and Flinx novels, while set in the Humanx Commonwealth follow the adventures of Flinx, a boy with strange powers, and Pip, his trusty mini-dragon sidekick.
