Loved how I felt like watching a teenage drama tv show while reading this book. Not gonna lie the first chapter caught my interest especially on what the plot/conflict to be.

Loved how every characters has their own flaws and not everyone meant to be liked by readers but I admit I was rooting for some of the characters. It was so very intriguing and the ending I WAS SO FRUSTRATED. I know someone died on the book but I wasn't expecting it to be that person. I like that character. It bummed me out.

Also they were right that reading this was a guilty pleasure for some like me so if you want to just chill and read, you can pick this one.

One things for sure I'm going to read the next book!

Edit: After thinking about it for a while, I realised this book is more of a three-star than a four-star rating (okay three-and-a-half but still). So yeah, taking off one star. 

A couple of weeks ago, I had a job interview. It went well, if I may say so, but they ended up not hiring me. To cheer myself up, I decided to go to my local bookstore, where I bought The Thousandth Floor. I had heard about it briefly on the internet and had seen pictures of that gorgeous cover, so I decided to just bring it with me. The fact that it took place a hundred years in the future was probably what got me so intrigued.

The Thousandth Floor tells the story of a couple of inhabitants of a gigantic tower built in New York City. We follow Leda, Avery, Eris, Rylin and Watt as they tell their story of what happened before that fateful night when a girl fell, jumped or got pushed off the thousandth floor.

Honestly, I hadn't expected this story to be a Gossip Girl type story but set in the future. The synopsis didn't really make me think that, and neither did the categories on Goodreads. It's not usually a book I would have picked up, but I guess the promise of futuristic gadgets and an immense thousand-floor tower that got me interested in this book. It was rather interesting, but this story could have just taken place in present-day, or even the past, and nothing would have changed at all.

I can't really say I liked any of the characters that much, because most of them seemed like those girls in high school that I would have avoided at all costs. Perhaps Rylin and Watt were a bit more likable, but still I couldn't get myself to like them that much. I did enjoy how the author added both rich characters and characters who lived below 'the hundredth floor' which is similar to the slumps.

There was a lot of drama going on in this book, obviously, and a lot of relationships happening and breaking as well. I liked Rylin's relationship and Eris' but the others weren't really my thing. (view spoiler)[The big thing that I absolutely hated about this story, which is also a huge reason for me not rating this book higher is the incest. Avery is in love with her brother Atlas, and he loves her back too; and yes I fully understand that they are not related by blood - Atlas was adopted and technically they aren't really doing anything gross but still. It was just gross and I really did not enjoy that part of the story at all (hide spoiler)]

The prologue of the book was what really pulled me in, and I found it a bit of a shame that I had to go through almost 400 pages of chick-lit worthy story-telling before we finally found out what happened on the top of the tower. It was a bit of a plot-twist, as I had been contemplating throughout the book who the girl was and why she had gone over, but I honestly had not expected the thing that happened.

I heard there was going to be a sequel, but honestly I am not 100% sure if I'm going to pick it up. If you love Gossip Girl and Pretty Little Liars and you love science fiction, you should definitely pick up The Thousandth Floor.

the character development is unmatched throughout this series — each character is distinct and has clearly articulated motivations and backgrounds. I fell in love with some and started despising some.

Wow! I liked this a lot more than I was expecting to. I was definitely getting some Pretty Little Liars (the tv show, not the books lol) vibes from this. It was dramatic and complex and so interesting to see the way the characters’ lives start to intertwine. 

Avery was one of my favorites for sure. I feel like she had the best of intentions, and she tried her best to be a good friend even though it was difficult for her. I don’t know how I feel about the whole thing with Atlas though. It was weird - I was rooting for them and kinda unsure about it all at once. I know they aren’t actually blood related, but still. 

Eris was my absolute favorite. The bisexuality was a pleasant surprise, and I adored her with Mariel. Watching her cope with her family struggles and try to find herself apart from her wealth was great. She was just kind, and I really appreciated that, especially since some of the other characters could be vicious sometimes. 

Rylin was another character who only had the best of intentions...but damn, I wish she would’ve just TALKED to Cord. HE LOVES YOU RYLIN JUST TALK TO HIM AND STOP GETTING INVOLVED IN SHADY THINGS. I also loved her relationship with her sister, and that it didn’t get lost in the whirlwind of drama. 

Watt was...interesting. I still don’t know how I feel about him. At first, I was rooting for him, and I think I still am. His relationship with the AI inside his head is strange to say the least. 

And Leda. I hate Leda in the best way possible. Her sections were probably my least favorite to read, because I feel like she was being frequently selfish?? Like, it’s a common moral code that if you want to date your BFF’s brother, you should ask her first, and that’s just one of her many issues. She could’ve been so much better if she would just be honest with her friends and ask for help when she needed it. 

Anyway, the end made me sad as hell. I’ll definitely read the second book eventually, but this was just...a lot. I can only handle so much petty drama at once. But I will certainly revisit these characters in the future.

Four stars ONLY because the other two are better but honestly this is not the best series ever. Katharine McGee has some amazing books - the American Royals series is spot on - but this is just a few too many characters and all of them are pretty unlikeable. The Avery representation got me though :)

Gossip Girl of the future. What's not to love about that? Add into the mystery that the book starts off with someone following from the top of a thousand floor tower, I'm in.
The majority of this story takes place miles up on a tower that defies the imagination. In a world that has gone so tech-savvy, there is a self-contained city in a tower. Schools, homes, and businesses on each group of levels - depending on wealth. The most wealthy residing in the top few levels. This book follows our five main characters. A boy from the lower levels and four girls from the upper levels. Its just as complicated as Gossip Girl but does take some time to get into. What kept we reading for the first half of the book was a desire to know who fell from the tower. After I got to know the characters, I couldn't stop reading. The characters ended up so interconnected that it was easy to get lost in their story. Before I knew it, I cared a lot more about what Atlas did over the summer and what Eris was going to do to get back to the top. 
That being said, I do feel that this book didn't live up to all my standards. The characters felt flat at some points. None of them really grew as characters except Eris, everyone else remained as petty and flat as they were at the beginning of the book. They each went through so much that I expected a lot more character development from them. The closest I got to that besides Eris was Rylin, she had just begun to change near the end of the book. I also felt that the choice of the girl who fell from the top of the tower was a little disappointing and seemed like a cop-out because it kept the author from having to deal with the rest of her story line. I wanted to see more from her and see her develop as a character. I can only hope that the beginning threads of her story will still be relevant in the next book, even if she is gone. I also found some the technology to make me roll my eyes. There was a lot of tech that just seemed like lazy writing in my opinion. Of course there's tech for that and of course it works like that, just enough to cause issues between the characters. I do hope that the books will just get better as the series goes on, much like Gossip Girl did.
I will say that this being pitched as Gossip Girl of the future is very accurate. This felt like a Gossip Girl book, in the best of ways. I do expect a lot from the series as it continues for that comparison though. I really enjoyed the Gossip Girl books when they were coming out and I'm hoping this will fill in for that GG fix. 
Even though it was disappointing at parts, I do look forward to reading the next book. This one just came out though, so I know it will be a while before there's another in the series. Hopefully the cover is just as gorgeous as this one was.

This probably wasn’t actually amazing. It definitely was predictable. But it was like a fantasy, hi tech, version of gossip girl (which is a show I secretly love and a book series I unfortunately didn’t love), so this hit all my feel good spots.

After five years of sitting around on my bookshelves, I figured it was finally time to pick up this book and omigod every bad review of this book is wrong. I mean, there is no plot and all the characters are awful people, but I survive off of drama and this book has given me more energy then my daily naps ever will.

           It took me quite some time to finish this book. Not because I didn't like it, but because I didn't want it to end. I've always been a fan of futuristic/dystopian novels, but The Thousandth Floor isn't much of a dystopian. It's in set in a future that might not be that far off. I'm usually not a fan of books who go back and forth between a lot of characters, but it worked quite well here. You get all sides.

Avery: I like her but not my favorite. She's the it-girl who's in every book. Everyone loves her but then she's hiding a huge secret that she thinks is a really big deal but isn't. Yeah, kinda creepy she has feelings for her brother but Atlas isn't actually related to her. When the book began, I was actually expecting Avery to be the girl in the dress at the bottom of the Tower.
 
Leda: I'm not a fan of Leda, at first I was like okay, I think I might like her, but as she developed, I literally could not stand her. I think it was because of the way she treated everyone. I liked how her character had the most detailed past, but I was kind of hoping she would've been the one to fall....

Rylin: LOVED HER. I thought her character was the most developed. She had a rough childhood and now she's raising her little sister. I wasn't expecting her relationship with Cord to mean so much. I mean you could actually see her changing. She went from being a serious party girl to hanging out with Cord and her sister just because.

Eris: In the beginning, I wasn't a fan of hers, just because she started out being the typical stuck-up, entitled rich girl. But then again with Eris, she started to change and I really loved her relationship with Mariel. I think she was really good for Eris, but now we'll never know, unfortunately.

Watt: I don't know, man. I like him but I don't. I feel like he was kind of sneaky with Nadia, but then again, if I was in his situation, I probably would've done the same thing. I liked how when he was around Avery, he turned Nadia off. That showed his true feelings for her and that it wasn't just about the spying job he was doing for Leda. 

Towards the end, when everything was escalating on the very top of the Tower, I was so nervous that McGee was going to leave us in a cliffhanger. Very glad she didn't. All in all, I thoroughly enjoyed the book. I'm already very excited for the sequel!

this was originally getting a 3.5 because i loved the rich people drama and was really intrigued with the worldbuilding and was about to continue the series just to learn more about it but damn (view spoiler)[but i just can't read a book with incest, even if they are not biologically related and one of them is adopted, it still feels way too weird and i really thought the author wasn't gonna go through with it. also Leda was just too unbearable in the last chapters (hide spoiler)]
after the ending, it just completely turned me off to give the rest of the series a go.

I really enjoyed this book. It was the first longer book I have read in a while and it didn’t overwhelm me. I love the in-depth look we get from multiple characters and love reading through each of their eyes. This was a fun, futuristic YA novel that I know I would have been obsessed with in high school (and thoroughly enjoyed at 23.)

Despite a very weird adopted sibling romance story line, I really enjoyed this one! It gave vibes of Riverdale, Pretty Little Liars and shows in that genre but with an addition of futuristic sci fi element. I am normally not a fan of stories told in multiple POVs, but this one was well written!

This is purely a guilty pleasure read for myself. It is not the most intriguing plot and its very juvenile. The futuristic world was very interesting to me but it wasn't explored enough in my personal opinion. I found myself very interested in this world of living in The Tower. I wanted to try to envision it myself and I think that aspect of the story would make an interesting onscreen show/movie. There were parts of the technology that I would have liked to be explained a little more but that can just be my lack of knowledge on technology in general. 
There are many character POV's, I believe five. I enjoy books with multiple POVs because if you don't like the main character you most likely wont finish the book, so with the multiple you get a break from characters you may not like. I didn't like any of the characters, I cannot say that I strongly disliked one character over the other either, I just felt indifference. I was only there for the ending. The prologue opens up with a death then the book starts with two months prior to the death. So that's what kept me, I wanted to know who dead and why. I had my theories and I was wrong. Shortly before the death occurs I already guessed it, then I was curious as to how it was going to be dealt with. 
There is a ton of drama in this book. More drama than I believe I have ever read. This book is compared to Gossip Girl and Pretty Little Liars frequently. I guess Gossip Girl because its New York and there are the rich and glamorous as well as the non rich. There is drama between supposedly best friends and major insecurities. Pretty Little Liars I'm assuming because of the amounts of secrets being kept as well as a "mysterious death." I can see the parallels to Gossip Girl not so much to Pretty Little Liars but in the drama and stupidity factor as well as guilty pleasure phrase I can understand. 
There were many eye rolls during this book, the actions some of these teens make are obviously bad yet they do them anyways, everything seems like its such a life changer to them and some of the issues are very cliche. There are tons of tropes in here as well and a lot of romantic drama with this person hooking up with this person but that person liking this person so on and so on. Many readers are extremely uncomfortable with one of the romances in this book which is extremely understandable. I personally didn't care too much because I have seen and read worse examples of it but it does play a very big part in the story. 
The ending was the most dramatic ending of all dramas and I saw it coming it was pretty predicable very villainous. The ending is what may keep readers interested in picking up its sequel. To basically see how much worse they are all going to ruin their lives. I have to say that I am one of those readers.
This book is not without many other faults. There are quit a few problematic factors in this book that I can admit to not noticing myself. I am not the most critical reader at times especially when I am listening to audiobooks. I didn't notice a lot of these things and I have a hard time remembering characters physical traits when listening to an audiobook unless the traits are repeated. There is a really good review pointing out all the offensive or harmful qualities that I'll link for you guys. I recommend you read her review as well.

Okay ya'll. Originally I had gotten this book mostly for the cover (I mean it's gorgeous come on) and the plot intrigued me. As a fan of Gossip Girl, I figured this was right up my alley, and it really was. I ended up being really invested in these characters and what they were going through. Yeah sure, it's about privileged rich kids - well 3 of the 5 characters that the story centers around are rich - but they all had some pretty serious issues that they were dealing with and that definitely made them more relatable then one would expect when reading the summary. I really loved McGee's writing style, especially when creating this new version of New York City, it was descriptive without being overkill and she really gave you a sense of this world. I felt that the story flowed very nicely, which can sometimes be a worry when each chapter you're focusing on a different character, it can get choppy and confusing, but it didn't feel that way to me. I really enjoyed the different POV chapters, and it was nice to see how the characters all interpreted different situations. The last like 100 or so pages, for me, were went it REALLY picked up, especially stakes wise and I didn't want to (and couldn't really) put it down. And that ending! Oh man, I am anxiously awaiting the sequel.

Honestly, this book seriously underwhelmed me: which is really disappointing. I wanted to love this book, really, I did. But it just wasn't meant to be. Katharine McGee has a really lovely way of building up the world, and that was pretty much the only part of the story I enjoyed. I loved learning about this future version of New York, and cared very little for the characters I thought I was going to love. 

Before starting this book, I read a lot of hype about "an amazing plot twist" and, if I'm being honest, I didn't even notice a plot twist at all. I didn't put it down feeling the need to continue, and I cared very little for what is classified as the plot twist. It was a bit bland, and it took me a while to actually finish this book because how underwhelmed I was by the plot. 

All in all, this book just didn't live up to my expectations. I had such high hopes for it when starting it (especially because of that beautiful cover) and I just didn't feel like the book met the standard. I doubt I'll even pick up the second book once it comes out, purely because I feel so uninterested in it.

At first I thought my issue with this book was the multiple POVs. Then I thought it might be poor chemistry with the narrator. But then I realized the truth is simply, I don’t like this book. Yes there is drama but there is poor character and world development to go along with it. Don’t even get me started with the end; I held out dnfing this book in hopes that the end would save it all. Boy, I was wrong.
