This book was a random find when I went to my library right before everything started to be closed. Toni Morrison is an author that I haven't read yet, but want to devour all her books. This group memoir gave me the introduction and commentary that I wanted and needed to give me the courage to pick up a Morrison book.

We read from the perspective of four friends as they provide social and personal commentary on various Morrison texts. These friends are from all different backgrounds, different races, genders and sexualities. We really get four very different perspectives reading this memoir.

Full disclosure: I've not read Morrison (yet!) nor do read a lot of memoirs. I found this to be an interesting take on the "traditional" memoir. It honestly worked for me and kept me engaged. I wanted to keep the discussions going (both inside and outside of the book). Similar to other books I've read, I found myself engaging in discussions on the subject matter with my boyfriend to hear his perspective. 

This book is short and I didn't want it to end. I loved the varying perspectives and stories. I cannot say enough good things about this book, which was such a random find. And I'm so thankful for how my library is set up that I could find a book like this at the beginning of the pandemic.

There are mentions of a lot of triggering items in this book; including the shooting of unarmed Black boys / men.
