I did a quick analysis of my nails. Nibbled on a couple. Conducted a visual assessment of Garrett’s kitchen. Contemplated raiding his cabinets for Oreos. Took another sip of coffee. Wondered if Marvel and DC could ever live in harmony. Shifted in my chair to adjust my underwire. Tapped out White Stripes’ “Seven Nation Army” on the table with my fingertips. Checked my phone for messages.

“So, what did you tell Uncle Bob?” I asked, unlocking Misery’s secrets. And her doors.

I bit my lip, then asked, “And he bought that?”

“Of course, only his exact words were, ‘Tell that niece of mine if she gets you arrested, I’ll make sure she never sees the light of day.’”

Honestamente, The Trouble with Twelfth Grave ha sido un libro relleno que aportó bastante poco a la historia más allá de la parte con el conjuro/hechizo/bendición y, aun así, lo amé con toda el alma y no sé cómo se supone que espere hasta el siguiente que será el final en la serie.

Loved this book... It has humor, and OMG moments, everything that makes the Charley Davidson series great. 
In one of my favorite parts they talk about a children's story, and reading it made me wish it was real. I love all of the little sayings at the beginnings of the chapters, and how most of the book make me smile and laugh out loud. At the end of book 11, we weren't sure what was going on with Reyes, well in book 12 that problem gets resolved but and the end we are left with another cliffhanger that makes me a little depressed about the wait until the 13th book is released. I cannot wait for it. You Should Read This Book.

The Charley Davidson series by Darynda Jones is probably one of my favorite series of all time. I randomly discovered this series through a friend last year and seriously this is probably the fastest I have ever powered through a book series that contains as many books as this one does. The series centers around Charley – Private Investigator, Grim Reaper, God - as well as her merry band of friends and family. In every book, Charley solves a mystery for the living and a supernatural mystery, all while trying to keep those same friends and family I mentioned alive, keep the peace with the supernatural, and protect her baby from the evil minions that are always trying to find and kill her since she is basically prophesied to be the savior of the world. All in a day’s work for Charley. 

In the Eleventh book in the series, Eleventh Grave to Midnight, we watched at the end as Charley’s husband, the always hot and sexy Reyes, went into the God Glass to release the tormented souls that didn’t belong there, so that Charley didn’t have. Unfortunately, this awoke his god-side, who doesn’t necessarily play by the rules of Charley’s world. Now in The Trouble with Twelfth Grave. the penultimate book in this series, we see that she is tasked with helping a friend who is a suspect in a murder she didn’t commit, as well as trying to find a killer who is targeting specific people and violently murdering them. In addition to all of that, she has to track down her wayward husband before he decides he might want to rain down death and destruction on the world and right now she is really hoping he isn’t the one who is committing all the violent murders. 

As usual, this book hit all the right buttons for me. It has a kickass heroine who always seems to do what is right no matter what the cost, and she never lets her godhood go to her head. It has a very, very sexy leading man, even though you really don’t know what his intentions are in this book. And while there weren’t quite as many sex scenes as there have been in the past, the main one was a scorcher. Literally a scorcher (you will see it when you read it!) Darynda Jones has an amazing talent of being able to make you laugh and cry in the same chapter, sometimes on the same page! This series can be both laugh out loud funny, but also deliver some pretty harsh gut punches. I don’t cry at many books, but I have cried during a few of these. And I am not going to lie, this book shocked the crap out of me a couple times, and, I of course, won’t mention those specific instances because they are major spoilers, but I will say I am still a bit traumatized.

So, if you love tough female characters who happen to be absolutely hilarious, a cast of characters who are equally charming and loveable, a fantastic story that has been developed and honed over 12 books so far, with riveting mysteries to accompany each book, do yourself a favor and pick up this series if you haven’t already. You won’t be sorry.

So I did a very silly thing with this series. I read First Grave on the Right and then jumped right to The Trouble with Twelfth Grave. I skipped every single book between. So, yeah, I was a teeny-weeny bit confused while reading The Trouble with Twelfth Grave. I didn’t let my confusion get in the way of reading the book. It was the new relationships/new people who threw me off.

The Trouble with Twelfth Grave starts with Charley unloading her problems on a ghost. Long story short, she sent Reyes into a hell dimension. Reyes was supposed to save some innocent people who were trapped inside. Only thing….she accidentally trapped him inside the god glass pendant. He was trapped with an evil priest, a demon assassin and a malevolent deity. Reyes changed when trapped in that dimension. He reverted back to his deity form. And that deity form hates human. He also hates Charley because Charley, when in her deity form, had trapped him in that hell dimension. So, yeah, it made things a bit awkward.

Charley has her hands full. She is trying to convince everyone that Reyes will remember her….in time. She is also hiding her daughter from the Vatican, who has taken an interest in her. Her best friend’s teenage daughter has decided to open a PI venture. She is also trying to keep a friend out of jail by covering up the murder of a hot-headed criminal. On top of that, she also gets a case when someone or something is attacking and killing humans who are sensitive to the paranormal world. It’s a lot on her plate and will it implode on her?

Charley was still her snarky self in The Trouble with Twelfth Grave, which was awesome. Charley is that one girl that you can count on to help you out. When Peri told her what happened, Charley was there with a plan to help her. That plan cracked me up and I did sing The Mission Impossible theme song in my head the entire time they were doing it. I could see myself being friends with Charley, she was that interesting to be around.

I do wish Reyes was more in this book. I loved reading the sexual tension between Charley and him. Also, seeing him fight that evil part of himself was very interesting. I did think that the author included a very interesting plot twist towards the end of the book with Reyes. Makes me think about what could be happening in book 13.

The sexual tension between Charley and Reyes could be cut with a knife. He did what he did in book 1 and would show up and molest her. There was that one sex scene where Charley burned her clothes off. Talk about hot!!

The end of the book was pretty busy. All the storylines except the one with Beep and the one with the PI venture were ended very nicely. I was not expecting the twist that came with Reyes at the end. I also was most definitely expecting what happened at the end of the book. That bit of a cliffhanger definitely makes me want to read book 13.

The Trouble with Twelfth Grave was a very good book. I enjoyed reading it. The plot and characters were fleshed out. Unfortunately, you do need to read the earlier 11 books before reading this one. It is not a stand-alone book.

I swear to god Darynda Jones loves to torture her readers, because after THAT ending from Eleventh Grave, she gives us THIS ending!? *cries*

Still, I loved this book because I love Charley and the gang. I'm so, so sad the series is coming to an end soon – but I'm excited to see what else Darynda Jones has in store for us. Twelfth Grave is another incredible Charley Davidson installment, one I didn't want to end. SO much is happening, and yet not enough. It's a crazy, wild ride that fans of the series don't want to miss!
