The Truth About Him

The Truth About Him A Novel

M. O'Keefe2015
For fans of Christina Lauren and Jodi Ellen Malpas comes the next novel in M. O’Keefe’s breathtakingly sexy series about a woman called into a journey of the heart, body, and soul. We played our roles, told each other lies. But now Dylan is no longer just a mysterious deep voice on the other end of the line. We’re face-to-face and our relationship is very, very real. We still have secrets—but so much is crystal clear: The thrilling danger. The raw, naked desire. The need to keep feeling the way he makes me feel. Forever. Dylan is putting up walls, trying to keep me safe, but he can’t shut me out. He has seen my darkness and rescued me. Now it’s my turn, if only he will let me. Praise for The Truth About Him “M. O’Keefe blew me away with The Truth About Him, the conclusion to the dark, emotional, and dangerously sexy story of Annie and Dylan that began with the brilliant Everything I Left Unsaid. Wonderfully compelling and absolutely one-click worthy, this duet by M. O’Keefe is tops of my 2015 favorites list!”—New York Times bestselling author J. Kenner “The Truth About Him is one of the most gorgeous books I’ve ever read. Dark, sexy and emotionally haunting, it has stayed with me long after I turned the last page.”—New York Times bestselling author Tracy Wolff “O’Keefe weaves a complex, poignant tapestry of character, emotion, and action.”—Kirkus Reviews “O’Keefe composes riveting scenarios. . . . Readers seeking exhilarating sex along with thrilling conflicts won’t be able to put it down.”—Publishers Weekly “The conclusion to O’Keefe’s dark and spellbinding . . . Everything I Left Unsaid jumps off the cliff into a raging sea of passion and danger as she continues to push our couple through the darkness that consumes them. . . . Suspense and intrigue play a larger role, with the romance flowing right along . . . as Dylan and Annie fight to hold on to the love they have built.”—RT Book Reviews “I loved the way this couple fit together, the way they understood each other. . . . The Truth About Him is a worthy sequel to Everything I Left Unsaid, with a similarly thoughtful and nuanced portrayal of the main characters. . . . The romance is emotional, surprising, and moving. . . . Together the two books make a beautiful, smart whole, and I recommend them both.”—Dear Author “Every choice, every reaction, every emotion plays out on the page as the couple stumbles forward, only to jump back two steps, driven by fear and lust and vulnerability. The unflinchingly realistic events make their reactions hit hard. And carrying it all is O’Keefe’s beautiful language. . . . Dylan and Annie painfully ripped my heart out and then put it back together again. Now excuse me, I have a book to reread.”—Heroes and Heartbreakers “The drama was out of control, as was the heat between Annie and Dylan, in this explosive conclusion. . . . O’Keefe has yet again given us a dark-yet-hopeful romance that will keep you on the edge of your seat.”—Harlequin Junkie “Raw [and] emotional, with an amazing heroine and a cast of characters that give this book an exciting edge. Grade: A”—Smexy Books The Truth About Him is intended for mature audiences.

First Impressions
The Truth About Him is the second book and the finale to the story between Dylan and Annie's story. This book literally picks up right after the first book ends so you can easily jump right into this one after reading the first book. I had such a fun time with this one here, and seeing the way into which these two learn each other and find their way of resolving their issues. I really admired the way in which this story was written. It starts off with so much intrigue and danger and tension and seeing our couple really find their ways past the stones thrown into their path was admirable.

First Line
Annie McKay came to slowly. Aware in pieces of her surroundings.

Summary
No summary as it will spoil the ending of the previous books.

What I Loved
I am going to keep this review a bit shorter as I don't want to reveal what happens at the beginning of this one as the first book ended with a cliffhanger. I know some of you may not mind some spoilers and I am sure other reviews will have those, but if you really want to know what happens I have it below here
(view spoiler)

The romance between Dylan and Annie is so endearing in this story. They really have to face some issues within their relationship and learn to fight for each other. There are secrets that revealed that were hinted at in the first book. But we also see the type of love that these two have for each other. I just admired their trust in one another and embracing fully what they have. It definitely had a "couple against the world" type of feel to the story. There are multiple characters that try to dissuade these two from being together. My heart ached for both of them. They both have flaws and struggles, but they truly come together so sweetly. I admired their convictions and standing strong despite the discouragement and learning to fight for each other. There is such a level of teamwork that comes into play into their story which I really appreciated. They had some drama in the first book, but this one is where their relationship issues gets resolved pretty early on and we see them fight against the outer conflicts that rise up.

Narration
Like the previous book, the narration in this one was with the same narrator and they did a superb job in portraying the conclusion for Dylan and Annie.

Overall View
This story was a powerful conclusion to our couple and seeing the mysteries being resolved and seeing our epic pair find their poignant journey to their well deserved happy ending. A POWER PACKED FINALE!

And I was humbled by her choice.

She owned me. Despondent and wrecked, smiling and bright—it didn’t matter. I was hers.

“You. You are what is different. You have changed everything.” It was the unvarnished truth. As close to love as I was capable of getting.

Since I read both book 1 and 2 back to back, I wish they would have been one story. Everything I Left Unsaid was super compelling, I enjoyed the tension of Annie and Dylan's phone relationship, and gah that cliffhanger. This book felt more repetitive, with lots of little breaks between Dylan and Annie as they try to navigate being in an actual relationship and a lot of stuff with the motorcycle club that I didn't really care about. I'm really intrigued to read more about Annie's neighbor in her book. Cannot wait.

Originally posted at Booklovers For Life I’d been looking forward to reading The Truth About Him ever since reading that cliffhanger in Everything I Left Unsaid, and M. O’Keefe did not disappoint with Annie and Dylan’s second and final novel. It picks up right where the first book left off and continues with even more heart-pounding suspense and raw sensuality. I enjoyed this sequel every bit as much as the first – if you were a fan of Everything I Left Unsaid, you definitely need to pick up The Truth About Him. I was not the right man for her, but I wanted to be. And I was humbled by her choice. While Everything I Left Unsaid is more Annie’s book, The Truth About Him is definitely more Dylan’s book. I thought it was interesting that the author wrote the first book in Annie’s 1st person POV and Dylan’s 3rd person POV, then this sequel in Dylan’s 1st person POV and Annie’s 3rd person POV. M. O’Keefe’s writing is exquisite, and definitely my favorite part about this series. It’s gorgeous, lush, and sensual, which meshes perfectly well with Annie and Dylan’s story. If there’s one thing you need to experience, it’s the writing in this series. If you’ve read Everything I Left Unsaid, then you know Annie is in trouble. Thankfully, this trouble is wrapped up quickly, though there is so much more for Annie and Dylan to deal with. Not only is their relationship a little rocky, but there is Ben’s sickness to deal with, the dangerous MC gang who’s targeting Annie, and Dylan’s brother Max is in trouble. I honestly had no idea where the author would be taking the story, but I just went along for the ride and wasn’t disappointed. I was hooked onto the story – the suspense never slows down, and neither does the romance. She owned me. Despondent and wrecked, smiling and bright—it didn’t matter. I was hers. Dylan has moved into trailer park to protect Annie, and he’s struggling with his feelings for her. He knows he’ll do anything for her, go to the ends of the world for her, but he’s still not sure if he’s capable of love. Dylan is endlessly fascinating and I loved that we delved so much deeper into his character in this book. We get to know more about his past, his family, and his coworker Blake. As for Annie, I adored her character. She’s a lot more confident by now, since she knows how much she means to Dylan, but she’s still trying to prove to him that he’s capable and worthy of love. And the two of them are hotter than ever in this book – anytime Dylan and Annie are together, the chemistry between them is on fire. I loved how raw and sensual their need for the other was. “You. You are what is different. You have changed everything.” It was the unvarnished truth. As close to love as I was capable of getting. The word that best describes this series is fascinating. M. O’Keefe has written a series that you just can’t put down, because you NEED to know what happens next. The suspense is well-done, not too heavy, and the romance is sexy, yet sweet and tender. I absolutely enjoyed this conclusion to Dylan and Annie’s story, and highly recommend giving their books a try if you love romance and suspense. I’m really hoping there might be more books about the secondary characters, because I love the author’s writing and I’m so intrigued by the characters!
