Book #9 Read in 2017 The Twelve Days of Dash and Lily by Rachel Cohn and David Levithan This is the sequel to Dash and Lily's Book of Dares and picks up roughly a year after that book ended. Lily is dealing with some family stuff and feeling distant from Dash; Dash is afraid of losing Lily so he's looking to bring some romance into Lily's world. These characters remain real and flawed and lovable and this book was a good read. If a reader liked the first book, he/she should definitely read this one. I borrowed this book from the public library.

I missed these two. Was it as good as the first? No. But I felt it was pretty realistic for them to have some struggles after their whirlwind romance. And to show both of them growing up a little more! Especially Lily who I relate to (a lot), but also get frustrated by! However, as a grandpa's girl myself, I really loved reading how she was taking care of him even if it was hurting her relationship with Dash. It made me nostalgic for NYC. and yes, I read a Christmas book in July, so what?

2.5 I really don’t know how to feel about this book. The first half was so good, it made me feel emotional and excited I just didn’t want to put the book down. Then all the drama got sorted out and the second half of the book felt like the writers were trying too hard to keep the book going. I lost the connection with the characters by the end of the book.

*Reread in 2021 - I Loved returning back to Dash and Lily land! They are my favorite Christmas elves! Y'all I just realized I read this the EXACT same two days but two years later! Weird. *original review 2019 4 Stars I won't say a lot here because it's a sequel and it's just a cute, fun Christmas contemporary that does exactly what you expect. That being said, I loved getting to spend some time with Dash and Lily (and co.) and see some of their crazy antics! The ice skating scene was one of the funniest, most chaotic things to read and I loved it. My biggest issue with this book was Lily's friends and family not just allowing her to be sad. It was like, everyone wanted her to get back to happy for THEM and not for HER. But because it is addressed in the book, I will not hold that against it. If you liked the first book but thought the teens were a little too pretentious for your liking, have no fear, the pretentiousness is actually not nearly as high this time around and I found that quite enjoyable. Cover 5; Characters 3; Plot 4; Pace 4; Writing 4; Enjoyment 4

Why am I suddenly reading a Christmas-themed book? Haha. I'm working on my NetGalley feedback ratio and I forgot that I have an earc of Mind the Gap, Dash and Lily. I thought of finally reading it but wasn't aware that it's the 3rd book. So I read Twelve Days of Dash and Lily on audio. I finished it today. Thankfully, it's a fast and quick read. We see the different sides of Dash and Lily which was interesting to read. Lily is going through some tough times and I feel sad for her but mostly annoyed of her. Dash also felt flat in this one. I wasn't a fan of the "conflict" in this book. The story does pick up at the end but it still didn't give me much of enjoyment and festive feels.

3.5/5 starts This was a super adorable read! I loved it! It was quick and easy. I really enjoyed the story, and the fact that even someone who loves holidays can avoid being in the holiday spirit.

Me di cuenta que ya no estoy para soportar los dramas bobos de las adolescentes. Dash, eres un bello 10/10 por tratar de hacer todo mejor para Lily. 🥰

I wasn't the biggest fan of how Dash and Lily seemed to be on two completely different pages for the first half of this book. It felt like Lily the "good girl" was trying too hard to be the opposite. But once they both landed on the same page with each other, this book went back up hill and the ending was adorable.

Adorable, Christmassy and all in all, a really enjoyable read. Dash & Lily's Book of Dares is one of my favourite contemporaries, so I was both extremely excited and slightly apprehensive when I heard it was getting a sequel. This wasn't what I was expecting from a Dash and Lily sequel, it wasn't all sparkles and Christmas magic and honestly, I loved that. I really appreciated that this focused on a side of the holiday season that often gets brushed over, the fact that for a lot of people, it's extremely difficult, emotionally and physically. I really appreciated that we got to see Lily, someone known for her pure love for Christmas, not knowing how to be happy or magically forget all her troubles simply because of the festive season. This so easily could have been a story about someone who was sad, 'getting over it' because of Christmas, but it wasn't and I really appreciated that about it. It still has its adorable Dash and Lily moments and it still gave me all the Christmassy feels but it was also a lot more than that. Book of Dares is still one of my favourites and I do think I prefer it slightly over this one but to me, they're different books. One that delivers all of my Christmas (and essentially life) goals and dreams through its pages, and another that resonated with me in other ways and gave me something I needed to read at exactly the right time. They both now have a sentimental value to them and I'm sure I will continue to read them for many holiday seasons to come.
