The Uncommon Rider

The Uncommon Rider

The first dragon rider in over a hundred years has been born. And it's a girl. Never before has a female been chosen to ride a dragon. The Elite, a guild comprised exclusively of dragon riders, is dead according to most. No one has seen a rider in decades. The problems they used to fight overwhelm the world. Dragons are thought to be near extinction. However, the Elite aren't dead... It's just that a bunch of crusty, old men who do nothing that benefits the world at large are easy to mistake as useless corpses. Sophia Beaufont is about to change all of that. When the dragon egg that magnetized to her hatches, it sets Sophia on a new course. The Elite are immediately notified. She's expected to train. To defend. To fight. Sophia is ready to conquer evil, as the dragon riders should have been doing for centuries. However, the Elite have been turning a blind eye, allowing the world to be overrun by criminals. That's all about to change. S. Beaufont isn't a girl who will be told to sit down and relax when a war is brewing that only a dragon rider can extinguish.

3 stars. buddy read Sophia Beaufont found a dragon egg when she was nine. Dragons were thought to have been extinct, since the Dragon Elite has vanished for over 500 years... until her egg hatches. Sent to Scotland to learn about the Dragon Elite, she finds men who have isolated themselves and have become complacent. Will she be able to help show the mortal world the force of the Dragon Elite as the adjudicators, or will they stay hidden, scared of the new modern world they have abandoned? This is my first Noffke book, and I thought that it would be hard to understand since this is a spin-off series but the author made it easy for anyone to jump into. Even though if I want to read her earlier books, I know major spoilers lol. This book is definitely just building up the plot, with minor events (in my opinion) so don't expect anything crazy. But, I really enjoyed Sophia and Lunis' relationship throughout, and the relationships she has with the Dragon Elite. I didn't rate it high because (view spoiler)[ it has 'i am the chosen' vibes written all over, and everything she does is as easy as breathing. I wish it took her longer to do certain things, or have more struggle. (hide spoiler)], but it was still a good read. I would recommend this for a beginner into the dragon genre.
