           This was my first Mary Sharratt book...and, it will most definitely not be my last. Prior to 2009, I wouldn't read anything but fiction...I was kind of a glutton. For me it was a symptom of boredom...a way to escape my real (very monotonous and inauthentic) life and vicariously live a life I knew I was capable of living. From late-2009 to late-2012, I lived that life...a life that enables me to relate to my favorite line in this book. 

"I do not think a Woman ever recovers from her First Love. Gabriel was branded on me, his Name burning on my Skin. I wondered if he still lived. Part of me, a ghostly Self, still walked at his Side and shared his Blanket." 

During this time, I turned to non-fiction books about spirituality to brighten the light bulbs that were going off. In December 2012, I recommitted to reading fiction...in order to seek balance between enrichment and purposeless enjoyment. While the first one was flat and disappointing, 'The Vanishing Point' grabbed me and swept me off my feet like I remember happening in the "old days". It's intelligent, realistic, well written, inspiring, happy, sad...just like real life. If you haven't read it, do.
