Reread strictly because I couldn't remember how the series ended and there's no good recaps online. Probably significantly less impactful without the prior 5 books' immediate context, but still a fun read. I absolutely love the concept of this world, and getting some concrete explanation of the "why" is super satisfying. Jalan is also an excellent point-of-view character, and despite the fact that some of his shortcomings are played for laughs, the many small moments of redemption that he shows do feel authentic and earned.

Iffiest part of this book is just the raw number of "bosses / nemeses" that get faced. The last third of the book kind of feels like a checklist of enemies being met and dispatched in quick succession - this overload takes away from the individual catharsis of any one encounter.
