(1/5) 1 hour 48 minutes - Compared to The Roar, this book was quite frankly abysmal. I hated every second I was reading it, bar the one scene in the middle when Mika is talking to Helen about human greed/etc. The rest of the book is just so forced that it was difficult to read at times. The worldbuilding makes no sense - admittedly, it didn't make much sense in the previous book either but at least there was a decent storyline that allowed you to forget those flaws. The characters all fall flat - Mal Gorman is a horrendously cartoonish villain, even for a middle grade novel, and the rest of the characters are perfectly good or horrifically evil, so much so that none of them seem human except maybe for Helen. There was potential for this book to be a good sequel but unfortunately it was one of the worst books I can remember reading.
