This is the second book in the Royal trilogy and I have to say that I was super stoked for this story, and I loved the first and last book in the trilogy and I was very curious to see how this author would handle the “bad boy” of the princes and boy it was handled amazingly well and a bit different than you would expect actually. This is a mix of a marriage of convenience, slow burn and enemies to lovers type of set up to the romance and Halle handled these trope very delicately for this couple and I admire her approach to these books. Because each book is a bit different and has a unique dynamic in the situation for the pair so you never see copy cat type set ups. 

 

In The Wild Heir we have a story where our hero, Prince Magnus of Norway, is a bit of a wild card. He loves extreme sports and drinking and crazy nights of wild sex with unpredictable women. There is a recent event where a sex video is released with Magnus and the daughter of the Prime Minister and this is the last straw. His father needs him to take his place as King because he has major health issues and to help protect the family from further embarrassment he is ordered to find a wife and marry her. They give him a list of royal women in Europe and that he needs to pick one to marry and soon. So he goes for the most normal looking of women that he feels would make a good match for him. 

 

Princess Ella, is going to the University in Scotland and is pretty down to earth. She has been separated from her family most of her life. Sent to schools away from home but then she receives a notice from her father to visit the royal family for a weekend in Norway as they have invited her for some special occasion but her father doesn’t explain what is really going on. When she arrives though there is an awkward moment between Ella and Magnus because she so doesn’t like him at all. She doesn’t go for the manwhore bad boy’s, and that is all she sees Magnus as at first but when she learns that she is his choice for marriage, she is shocked and doesn’t handle it too well. But she also begins to see some good hidden qualities about Magnus, and decides since her father is pushing this and she doesn’t want to disappoint him she offers Magnus two weeks to see if they could handle being together and she will give him his answer at the end of the two weeks. What turns into a marriage of convenience turns into a battle of wills of love and desire….

 

The Wild Heir is such a wonderful and playful story and I really had a blast with this book. I will see that at first, I didn’t really feel the chemistry between these two. Ella was a bit too self righteous for me and Magnus was too conceited and arrogant at times but we begin to see the outer shells of their characters fall off and see the true essence and once we see the heart and soul of these two that is when Halle really pulls you into the story and makes you fall head over heels in love with them. I loved their sexy banter and how they hate/like each other in the beginning. But there is a sense of friendship that develops which slowly turns into something much deeper for them both. I really loved seeing this connection form between these two. 
I’ve always had trouble focusing on the right things. I’ve had a hard time trying to pay attention to things in life that most people do. I’ve struggled to make sense of the way I see the world. But…when I see you, you’re all I see
I did have some issues with the heroine to be honest. I really struggle with self righteous and judgmental heroines and even though it's not super strong, she judges Magnus before she even meets him. And so Magnus has to show that he is different from the person he has portrayed to the world. He isn’t ashamed for enjoying life but he also knows that he has made some mistakes that have caused pain and embarrassment for his family. But we do see him have a bit of a turn around to becoming more responsible and wanting something more for his country and Ella does make him a good match because she is very driven and hard-working so they really bring out that “Yin-Yang” balance to each other. 

 

Overall I found The Wild Heir to be a charming and lighthearted romance that gives you plenty of fun times, laughter and sweet sexy moments.

La verdad cuando estaba leyendo la historia del Viktor (The Swedish Prince), el personaje de Magnus no me llamaba para nada la atención, creo que ya estoy harta de los playboy. Por lo tanto, mi comienzo de lectura fue lento y me distraía fácilmente.

¿Me llevé una sorpresa? Pues la verdad es que no. No me resultó una historia épica con un súper crecimiento de personajes, pero estuvo entretenida. El personaje de Magnus tenía algo de profundidad y me gustó conocer esa pequeña parte de él, la verdad que la autora pudo haber indagado un poco más en su condición (TDAH) y hacernos entender mejor su personaje, pero no fue así. Por su parte Ella me resultó una extraña. Comenzó con una actitud reservada y de pronto en tres capítulos en donde narra Magnus después ya era otra persona; con una personalidad espontanea y divertida. Me hubiera gustado leer como poco a poco entraba en confianza con él y se ponía cómoda, pero tuvo demasiado saltos de tiempo y terminó viéndose forzado.

La dinámica de la relación de ambos se me hizo divertida y dulce, pero hasta ahí. No me llevo nada memorable. El climax del libro se me hizo un tanto predecible, aburrido y absurdo; que me terminó cayendo mal, ambos. Magnus y Ella actuaron ridículo y como niños.

Sinceramente quería que el libro terminara para leer el siguiente; Askel y Aurora, que creo que va a ser mi favorito de toda la serie.

They are the perfect balance of plot and spice. I will always love these royal romance stories 

I really like how we get cameos from the characters in the other books. It made me super happy anytime Viktor or Maggie were mentioned.

I fell in love with Magnus in The Swedish Prince. And fell even more for him in this book

The writing in this book was great! It gave me so many feels. I was so heartbroken and gutted at so many scenes because I was rooting for Magnus and Ella from the very beginning.

Wild Heir is Everything!

After reading Swedish Prince, I needed Magnus to have his own story and I’m so glad he did! This was everything I hoped it would be. Magnus was charming, sexy, WILD, and quite reckless. Ella was also very funny, Witty, and wasn’t made out to be a damsel in distress. I loved the dialogue between Ella and Magnus and how it wasn’t love at first sight. 
I think we really got to see Magnus and Ella grow as characters and see them fall in love instead of them just looking at each other and being like I love you after 5 minuets. I loved all the side characters and enjoyed seeing more of the royal family! I would definitely recommend this read! You can read this if you haven’t read Swedish prince but I highly recommend you read Swedish prince! If you are in your feelings after Harry and Meghan’s wedding than this is one you definitely need to pick up!

Currently in Norway for my studies I just had to pick it up and, boy I did not regret it ! This book is just what I needed and didn't know I needed. A story about a marriage of convenience can just not work but Karina Halle just blew my mind with this book. The story has just the perfect pace : not too fast but not too slow to the point you are just praying for something to happen.
Magnus is sexy, funny and romantic in his own way, the prince you crave for ! Isabella is just smart enough not to be a miss know it all or completely stupid. She also has the right balance between innocence and sexyness, she is not the young virgin waiting for the perfect man in her life.
The whole story is just a perfect balance between sexy parts that are not thrown in too soon, romantic parts "escalating" as they start to know each other. The characters are funny without being goofy.
I just wished the plot twist of the story was a little sooner in the story but it was not so bothering neither. Just a book with a perfect balance to make it short !

No one should be surprised to learn I had total royal fever leading up to the Royal Wedding — and it only got worse after the wedding. I've been bingeing royal romances for the last week or so and I can't ever pass up a new Karina Halle contemporary romance. The Wild Heir is the latest in a long list of books of Karina's I adored.

I'm a total sucker for the marriage of convenience trope and I don't think it's ever done as well as it is when combined with a royal romance. I mean, where else does it make as much sense? But regardless, I was super excited about this book and I was maybe even more excited to get an early copy. Magnus definitely caught my eye in The Swedish Prince, so I was thrilled to get his story.

I adored Ella from the very start. She seemed like an odd match for Magnus, but as well all know, opposites attract. Their chemistry and banter was fantastic and there was a great little slow burn as things built between them. Things weren't easy for them, but their story made sense. It had just enough bumps to make it realistic, but not enough to make it overly dramatic or angsty for the most part. If I'm being totally honest, I was a little put off by the big conflict piece near the end of the book. I won't spoil anything for you, but one character's actions didn't sit well with me. It didn't feel authentic or needed, for that matter. I'm not a fan of drama for the sake of drama and that's kinda what this felt like to me. That said, it was over relatively quickly, but it definitely dinged my rating. That might be a bit harsh, but it is what it is. 

Now all that said, otherwise this book was delightful. I enjoyed Magnus's journey and the path of his and Ella's relationship. It was wonderful to watch him become the man he needed to be. I love it when a "wild" man is tamed by a woman — or at least when his redirects his passion to her — so with that and the chemistry and swoons, this book checked all my boxes. Once again, Karina writes fantastic romance in gorgeous settings and The Wild Heir was no exception.
