McGuire said that The Winter Long is the book she was working towards when she started the series, and wow does it throw most everything into question about Toby's history and world. I won't say much for fear of spoilers, but watch the language of characters like the Sea Witch carefully. 

Also, I feel like the underlying mystery of fairie is ramping up, and I really want to know what the first borns are trying to do. I feel like things are not what they seem...

Yes!!!! I went into the book expecting Seanan McGuire to rip my heart out, violently throw it to the ground with a gleeful smile on her face and then dance a little jig atop of it until it was ground into dust. I am happy to say that did not happen. This book is now without its share of shocking revelations and "tragedies" and I full on expect that she will do the ripping of the heart out in a book down the line, but until then I am going to bask in the happiness that this book did not throw me into a depressed stupor and make me want to slit my wrists. Highly recommend. Actually highly recommend the entire series!
