The Wives A Novel
Reviews

literally UGH, a gigantic waste of time

this was AMAZING. i’ve been wanting to read it for a while but was in a bit of a reading slump so i didn’t get around to it! this is gonna be the book that gets me out of it. tarryn fisher did an amazing job with this book, thursday had me questioning what *i* was doing throughout the day, i zoned out while listening to it & felt like i was in the book 😭 the amount of plot twists were INSANE and i loved them all. my heart really aches for thursday. although she’s supposed to be the antagonist at the end, i can’t help but feel glad that she did what she did to regina & seth. i’m so sad she had to go through all of that though :( throughout the entire book i just felt sorry for her. she deserved so much better

lol that was bad

This book was good in the beginning, but absolutely fell apart in the last half. Would have been a DNF if I hadn't been so hopeful that they would turn it around. Too predictable for a thriller

Let me preface this review by saying that I am sorry for any cursing that may occur in this review. I have honestly no other words to explain this book but with the use of curse words. This is my first read by Tarryn Fisher and I am so happy that I was finally able to read one of her books. I’ve had her on my list of authors to read for a while now and I’m so glad that this one was my first. I swear to you, I think this is the fastest I’ve ever read a book before. I definitely don’t want to go into any detail on this book because I don’t want to give anything away. But let me just tell you this book had me going in one direction and then by the second half of the book I was going in a completely different one. I truly don’t know what the fuck I just read. This book is absolutely insane. I like that I don’t, I didn’t have any words to put in this review to tell you what I just read because I honestly don’t know. Really all I can say is that you have no idea of what you’re getting yourself into when you read this book. You really think that it’s going to go in one direction and then it just goes in a completely different one. Hands-down this is the best book I’ve read all year. I saw absolutely nothing coming. Most of the time when you read stuff you can have sort of an idea of where the book is going to go but with this one you would think you would and then you just didn’t. This book is unlike anything I’ve ever read before. No doubt about it. I am honestly still confused and literally don’t know what to think. The book is beautifully written and a totally messes with your mind. I’m not joking with you if you like thrillers or psychological thrillers you need to fucking pick up this book right now or on December 30th when it comes out and read it because it’s so fucking good! I cannot wait to own a copy of this book. This is going to be the first book I purchase in the new year!! 😍😱 I received an eARC of this book in exchange for an honest review. All thoughts and opinions are my own. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I really enjoyed all the twists in this story! The ending wasn’t my favorite outcome, but it wasn’t predictable AT ALL and kept me on my toes! It also gets you hooked pretty early on which is nice.

Ughhhhh. Brutal. I have so many issues with this book I don't even know where to start, so I won't. Bottom line: do not read this book unless you feel like getting severe eye pain from rolling your eyes constantly.

gave this book 3.25, it was quick read but the twist was a bit predictable. The ending left me wanting a little more, felt like the was tying up loose ends too quickly. would recommend though :)

Jesus. Honestly she annoyed me at first with how she treated herself within the relationship. Kind of reminded me of Gone Girl but terrifyingly sad.

It was really interesting and I enjoyed reading it. I just wish the ending was a little different. But still good!

** spoiler alert ** I'll give credit where credit's due and admit that this book was fast-paced and the overall plot was extremely intriguing, but unfortunately it fell short for me and I suppose it's because if we're going to go with the psychotic woman trope it at least needs to be good. I keep trying with Tarryn Fisher but she's just not my girl and that's okay!

Very eerie thriller. I couldn’t put it down until I finished it.

*cracks knuckles* Okay let's get this review started. When going into one of Tarryn's books we expect twisty and raw human emotion and that is exactly what you get. She almost always perfectly describes the ugly side of relationships and the lengths we will go to either maintain them or destroy them. She hits us with brilliant character inner dialogues such as: "That's how women are, right? Always wondering about each other- curiosity and spite curdling together in little emotional puddles. Little good that does; if you wonder too hard, you'll get everything wrong." The Wives delves deep into the psyche of our main girl, Thursday and how she lives her day to day knowing that her husband has other wives- how each one serves some sort of purpose and how to stay on top and be the best. The beginning of the book is a little bit slow but not in a disappointing way, and it picks up very fast then halfway through IT WENT IN A COMPLETELY DIFFERENT DIRECTION THAT I WAS NOT EXPECTING. It was definitely exciting and all the characters were unreliable which makes for an interesting story. But then, the last three chapters happen and I'm not exactly happy with the way the book ended. It seemed rushed and we don't get any resolutions for the characters. It's not like I'm a person that is mad if a villain wins or loses (I love villains) or if we are left with an open ending (some open endings are magical when done correctly), but it felt off balance. Our main girl is a bit wishy washy at the end and the conclusion was not very satisfying. I can't say much without giving it away, but I think the characters all needed different endings. Despite the ending the book is phenomenal and Tarryn is phenomenal and it's a brilliant read.

this was very strange

Not what I was expecting! I read reviews before reading and was told the ending was...lacking.😐 True. But- it wasn't terrible, obviously not where I thought it was going but not the worst. TW!!⚠️ this does contain mentions of miscarriage! But, no matter how many times I had to close the book/chuck it across the room and take a few minutes before going on again I think it's a great mind twisting read!

I liked the idea more than the execution. I can't believe I didn't notice she didn't have a name until halfway through the book. Another review mentioned not liking when the entire book is this woman being gaslit and honestly, same. It felt wrong even though I'm a sucker for an unreliable narrator, this was too much back and forth for me. (I should also mention that I rarely read the description of books so the twist wouldn't have been as much of a shock if I knew her name beforehand)

This book gave me massive anxiety. Would never ever read again, but it’s an interesting story. A little like the silent patient.

this had so much promise and yet 🫠

It was okay. It kept my attention and I listened to it in 3 days. That’s just about all I require from a thriller audio book.

Slept on this and had to change my rating to 5 stars. Not many books have me guessing and this threw me for a loop multiple times. Fantastic plot twists that worked, were believable. I keep looking back at parts of the story and see where the truth and reality of the situation were in plain sight all along. And can I say, the ending... *chefs kiss*

I kept thinking that I knew what was going to happen next, but each time was completely wrong. This book is so unpredictable, it really keeps you on your toes.

I bought this book a while back when I was binging solely on thrillers that relied on twists for the heck of it. I had my doubts about reading this now and I was right. This book is an easy read and a good way to pass some time but that's about it. Unlikeable characters, stupid storyline that gets dumber and dumber and abysmal and writing. Please go read a better book.

At the front of the book there's Colleen Hoover's praise for the book, it goes something like "it will leave the most sure footed readers unsure till the last word" and I thought she was kidding, over exaggerating, but she was definitely not, I kept thinking I knew what was going on, but untili read that last word, I had NO clue.
