wasn't hard to tell that this was reylo with the serial numbers filed off but still a fun time! i enjoyed the touches of asian culture (yaaay 豆花) but i wish they were more present (lacpl, libby, 7 hrs)

For a pair with such immediate chemistry, BOY was this one for slow burn lovers. I loved the world building, the build up of romantic tension during conflict, and the ending definitely gave just enough of a tease to get me excited for book 2. If you love a romantasy that’s very romance forward, Guanzon always writes character driven plot while keeping the stakes high.

An enemy's to lovers story in the best way, based in a universe with all sorts of magical elements that help build an amazing story. I couldn't put it down.

It started off very similar to the Shadow and Bone series but the last two thirds of the book were excellent. Good world-building, complex characterd, fast-paced and engaging plot. The relationship developing between Alaric and Talasyn was gradual yet passionate, and believable. I loved how the perspectives switched between these two more frequently in the second half of the book as it allows readers to see their thoughts and feelings during the same moments. A good set up for the next one which I can't wait to read.

This was a very hard one for me to get through, I genuinely didn’t think I would finish it but was determined- I very much wanted to like it. The world building and character development are slow and the plot seems mostly to be set up for other books to follow. After discovering it started as Reylo fanfic it made much more sense, but generally it didn’t work for me personally.

This book ended up being a bit of a dark horse for me - I’d heard really mixed reviews so I was surprised to find I flew through this story. Well written and well paced for the most part, it has a well thought-out world and interesting magic system. Where this book really excels those is the romance. A true slow-burn and enemies to lovers arc is hard to pull off, but Guanzon is threading that needle very well. The angst, the passion between these two people, chefs kiss. The story is not without its faults, though. The magic system seems confusing and underdeveloped to me and certain parts of the story seemed to just rehash itself over and over again. But I am very much looking forward to the next installment.
