Come See the Living Dryad is a beautiful story; its biggest fault is that it is not longer! Goss writes about the "freakshows" of the past, specifically the murder of a Living Dryad who is really a lady with a rare disease. Our narrator is a great granddaughter who deals with the same illness, but in a time when her options are more than just circus performer. She is researching the freakshows of old, inspired by family stories about her ancestor, and she wants to see if she can solve the mystery of her murder. It's a haunting, sympathetic story that demands readers think about and understand the lives of those different enough to be put on display for the amusement of others.

Theodora Goss has a very strong voice - I can tell it's her writing immediately. But some of the things she explored weren't fully realised, and some of the plot points were revealed without any tension build-up, leading me to feel that it was a bait and switch that never came. It feels incomplete and lacking, however overall I like the concept and the different forms of storytelling she plays around with
