Upon reading the details of this book, I thought it had the elements of one I'd enjoy. I went into this book not expecting anything though, and well, I was still disappointed. 

I didn't feel close to the characters by the end, I didn't feel like I knew them at all to be honest. There was background on them but I found it lacking. I was very confused in the beginning since the change of point of views weren't stated; I only managed by context clues. This was mainly narrated by two children of unspecified age, the writing fit the narrators but it was also very vague (the kind of vague I don't appreciate). There were also a few chapters set in the past, I think these were set up to provide more insight with regards to the children's grandparents- who played major parts in the story. Unfortunately, it didn't work for me. Character development here wasn't well done for me, too. 

I think this had a great premise, I just didn't like the execution and the writing style.

This was such a quick read (listen?) and for the most part I really enjoyed it.

This was not "my kind of book". 
I love family stories, but I just couldn't get on with the writing style that everyone else seems to love. 
I found it extremely abrupt and I don't feel like I'm close enough to the characters. There is some lovely prose sprinkled in between, but overall I didn't enjoy it.
