When I was younger, I really loved the Geronimo Stilton books. They were some of my favorites, and I remember always checking one out during our scheduled library time. When we received this book in a box of shipment at my bookstore–where I work–I knew I had to buy it.

This book was pretty good. The pacing is nice and quick, and the storyline isn’t hard to follow for someone of the 2nd-grade level. It’s also a fun read for those who are older. I was able to get into reading this book effortlessly, and I really enjoyed re-entering the Geronimo Stilton world.

Something I found pretty remarkable about this book is that it actually covers the topic of gentrification. For someone younger, this isn’t noticeable. But for those of who see it talked about nearly every day, we can recognize it off the bat. This book specifically talks about how there is a ghost going around and terrorizing the guests of a highly-esteemed hotel that has been family-run for generations. It’s later revealed that the hotel is being sought after by a rich sibling-duo looking to turn the lot into a toilet factory.

This is definitely an important lesson that should be taught to kids, even if not directly so. It’s something that should be talked about more as we’re experiencing it happen in large cities like New York and Chicago.

The only thing I didn’t like about this book was a part near the ending. Geronimo’s family and some of his friends all come to visit him, and for a few pages, it just talks about everyone falling and hurting him. I don’t really think it was a necessary bit to the book, and it was a piece that definitely could’ve been left out.

All in all though, I really enjoyed this book and look forward to picking up the rest. For that, I rate it 4.5 stars. I hope that, if you haven’t yet picked up this series yet, y’all consider doing so! I highly suggest it, and it’s definitely worth your time.
