This Night So Dark A Starbound Short
Reviews

I’m torn between whether I want to continue with this series. I like Lilac and Tarver, and the next book sounds intriguing, but something is missing for me and I’m not sure what it is. This novella does a good job in whetting the appetite, but I’m not convinced.

4.5 stars Wonderfully written and interesting novella exploring Tarver's past. I really enjoyed it and it was the perfect length - no beating around the bush, just fast-paced and action-packed.

I LOVED the transition of this story. i wish i would have re-read these broken stars before!

I love Tarver, ok. But sometimes I wish he were like at least 20, cuz it just seems ridiculous to me that an 17-year-old has achieved everything he's achieved. Just saying. Other than that I loved this little novella. It answers some questions from Their Fractured Light, which I loved. And those intersections, hell to the yes.

4 Stars and an A for this novella. Even though it's been mere hours since I finished These Broken Stars, I really did need this Epilogue / short story. The glimpse into why Tarver got all those promotions and badges. And the little snippets of Lilac and Tarver's domestic life were so lovely. Lilac and Tarver forever. And Sanjana Rao, Little Bangalore. <3 Heroine from Indian origins (Indian Sub-continent), I found that very pleasing! Loved her character and her courage and her bravery. Tbh, she and Tarver made a good team. Go, Rao! I'm super excited about going into This Shattered World now, I am eager to uncover the LRI mystery and all the eerie stuff from the first book.

The story behind how Tarver got his promotion, featuring brave heroics and even a little romance too (don't worry, it's with Lilac). Definitely worth the read, and even better, Amie & Meagan have offered it for free!

I really need to continue on with this series, but life and feelings and so on. I enjoyed this novella, but it wasn't anything particularly memorable or impactful.

4.0 This novella tells the story of how Tarver earns his "war hero" status and promotion to Major, six months before he meets Lilac aboard the Icarus. I enjoyed the insight into that evening and while the story was a little dry as far as depth goes, it was quick paced and introduces an interesting character I hope to see again in the sequel novels. Altogether, I see this novella adding some points to the overall plot that will be crucial as the story progresses, even if they are only briefly touched upon in this installment.
