Hannibal

_________________________ HANNIBAL LECTER HAS BEEN ON THE RUN FOR SEVEN YEARS. And seven years after he helped FBI Special Agent Clarice Starling bring down Buffalo Bill, her career is collapsing after a disastrous drug bust. Meanwhile, seven years after violently escaping from custody, Hannibal Lecter is hunted by Mason Verger, a psychopathic former client obsessed with feeding him to wild boars. With the one-time partners at a low ebb, Hannibal is the one to reach out to Clarice, who has been plagued by dreams of his rasping voice. It has been seven years since they both came to realise they shared more than they expected. Seven years since their last meeting. Seven years to lay plans for the next one... __________________________________ 'Quite simply a compelling and brilliant thriller' Mirror 'Addictive on every level' Express 'Better than Red Dragon and Silence of the Lambs' Stephen King

"Orang-orangmu mungkin saja membunuhku di jalan. Tapi kau menginginkan aku hidup-hidup, bukan?....Karena kau sangat ingin melihatku, izinkan aku memberikan beberapa kata penghiburan, dan kau tahu aku tak pernah berdusta.
Sebelum mati, kau akan melihat wajahku.
Hormatku,
Hannibal Lecter, MD."

Loved the ending. Loved the parts set in Florence. Loved the entire thing.

WHAT!!!! What just happened??

I was extremely excited to read this one after reading The Red Dragon and The Silence of the Lambs. After seeing Hannibal being so captivating in the previous books - despite being imprisoned, and not being the narrator or the protagonist, - I was so thrilled to see a book with him as the main character.
Well....
I was wrong and extremely disappointed!! After the first half I just wanted the book to end, but the ending... the ending just !!! *frustrated noises*.
The ending was exactly opposite of who Hannibal and Clarice were in the previous books. It's like their core qualities itself (the same things that made them captivating, interesting or in case of Clarice, very likable) changed in the last 100 pages of the book!
Despite reading gruesome details about a Cannibal, it's somehow the ending of this book which had nothing to do with killing or eating people, that made me think "Ewww, grrroossss"

Something I learned again: don't expect that the movie and the book are the same.
The first two movies are very similar to the books, so I thought this wouldn't be different as well. I was soo wrong.

After I finished it, I really didn't know what to think about it.
I mean, it was intriguing, there was a lot of suspense, the storyline was very good. But then that ending. To me, it seemed that the last few chapters didn't fit in. But when you think of it, I kind of like it.

I like Hannibal Lecter so much. He is the kindest, most charming, most romantic psychopath you'll ever meet.
I think the way the readers, or I, see Hannibal, is also the way Clarice sees Hannibal. And I think that explains the ending. He was one of the only guys who actually respected Clarice and saw her for who she really was; a beautiful, smart woman who knows what she wants and who respects herself and always stands up for herself. She is a character with a lot of depth, just like Hannibal, and that's why they ended up together.
