I was so excited when I received this book as an advanced copy because TL Swan and the Masters series is the books that got me into this genre of reading. 

Seb, where to begin with this magnificent character? He’s so dark and you can tell there is so much going through his head. His character development was amazing to read and watching him grow through the book made me fall more in love with him. I love reading how possessive and dominant he was while also being the perfect amount romantic for April. 

In true TL Swan nature April is strong and bad ass. Her and Seb were toxic from the beginning and their relationship started out on the wrong foot but they had the best chemistry. Despite their hard backgrounds with love they manage to over come everything life throws at them. 

You also get appearances from the lovely Mr Bromance and some other amazing characters in the Swan world which made me need to go back and reread some other Swan books. I love this work TL Swan has created and she will always be one of my favorite authors and I cannot wait for more of her books 🖤

The disclaimer at the beginning of the book said I'd be into strong willed men at the end of this and guess what? I am NOT into Mr Garcia! He's terrible at communicating and constantly belittles April. The plot line with the prime Minister is absolute nonsense that serves no purpose besides futhering Mr Garcia's position and should have been handled with care, not disregard for his life. Smut was like 2/5. Not a terrible read but not one I'll reread.

The disclaimer for this book showcases the story perfectly. I loved Mr. Masters & Mr. Spencer, but I found the pacing of this book to be a bit off for me. There is a 6 year time jump fairly early on in the book, and there is so much on again, off again, I hate you, I want to love you, don't leave me, get the heck out that I kind of got whiplash. This is an age-gap, second chance romance, but halfway through this book I was questioning whether are not these two should be together at all. 

Positives: Happily Ever After, Dual Point of View, Spice

Weirdness aside, I did finish this book fairly quickly, despite it being over 400 pages of weird, and it did get me out of my reading slump. I've read a lot of TL Swan and the best piece of advice I have still applies with this book: don't read too much into things and just take them for what they are, you'll enjoy them more that way!

Unable to help it, we fell hopelessly in love.
The highest of highs.

But his demons are dark, as are mine.

I’m not sure if we can make it and I know that I have two choices.
Walk away now to save myself.
Or try and hold on and let love be the light.

I choose option two.
