This collection of poems has many trigger warnings such as grief, loss, toxic relationships, sexual assault among others. Also dealt with mother-daughter relationships, what it’s like to not be accepted by your parent and the grief of losing a parent. 
You can really tell the poetry was very personal for this author, I could connect to the poetry personally because I have not expertise these things but I can appreciate it for what it is and how the author conveys her message.

The subject of this Amanda Lovelace book is so different than what she usually writes and I absolutely loved it. Usually, Lovelace details the heartbreak and eventual rebirth from lovers but this was entirely about family and losing her mom. The tone was dark and heavy, and rightfully so. It nearly had me in tears at some parts. I think this is one of her best.

Let me start off with saying. Amanda Lovelace hasn't let me down yet! I was jumping for joy when I was able to read another one of her works. This collection is a continuation of "to make monsters out of girls" that deals with the feelings of confusion, grief, and loss after the death of a loved one (her mother specifically). What always stands out to me in Lovelace's work is that she is able to capture such raw emotion in such small spaces in words. The lines are never over-flowery or pompous, but never boring and repetitive. As the reader continues through this work they get to see the recovery and strength that comes with navigating through hardships. This is a great work for teens and up!

This one spoke to me. I feel like everyone have problems with moms, but not everyone have such problems that lead to mental health issues... I do. Not the way it is described in the poetry book, but anyway. This was tender and important.

In all honesty, I still don't feel comfortable with the way the author writes the poems (they don't seem right to me but this is probably the way I learned how to write them) but the poems where so heat braking and profound. I cried in some of them and in others I had to save to re-read again when needed because the talked with me on a deeper level.

Once again Lovelace manages to hit you in the feels, it follows the complications of losing someone who has hurt you, who hasn't redeemed their selves in your eyes. Lovelace is a master at pulling at ones emotions, at encouraging self reflection and journaling.

Amanda Lovelace does it again. Which is, incidentally, how pretty much every review I've ever written about her poetry starts. So, pretend to be shocked for just a moment. Listen, it's no secret that I'm a massive fan of her works and To Drink Coffee with a Ghost is no less poignant and thought-provoking and utterly raw than any of her other offerings. 

I adored it. I consumed it. I sat back with a cup of coffee and a little rain and devoured it. If there is one thing I've learned about modern poetry, it is that there is so much said in so little time. Lovelace's signature is this: emotional impact that will leave you feeling any number of things. At times, there's this raw feeling of devastation and pain. In the good times, you feel the joyous way her words lift from the paper and linger in your mind. 

To Drink Coffee with a Ghost is one of her best and most personal releases yet. The capacity to which she feels, and writes, is so intense that sometimes you have to take a moment to yourself and pause to consider what you've just read or felt. This is self-expression at its most biting. This is a life, flawed and all. As it is with all of Lovelace's work, you see the personal growth that she has undergone in the years--it is easy to connect with her prose because she has the gift of reaching out to her readers in a way that feels personal and not unlike a friend conversing with another friend. 

The true gift of poetry is being able to express oneself and reach out and touch another. To Drink Coffee with a Ghost is one of those collections that will certainly grip its target audience and then some. Amanda Lovelace proves once again her talent and leaves us anticipating her next collection.
