Eddie O'Connell and his uncle, a former homicide detective, are hired by Arlene Adams, owner of Thornton Racetrack, to find out what happened to her husband, hitman Porter "the Pastor" Pearson, who disappeared years ago. Porter's old partner in contract killings for the mob, the Deacon, has unexpectedly contacted Arlene and is willing to meet. The Deacon demands that the meeting take place in Vegas. Uncle Mike has cold cases he needs to ask the Deacon about and Eddie learns he has something in common with the Deacon. In Vegas, Eddie reconnects with his old girlfriend Nicole Nicoletti, a pro poker player and sports betting cable personality, who has connections to Vegas high rollers. When murder forces Eddie and his uncle to delve deeper into the Deacon's new identity, they become embroiled in the Deacon's final scheme.
