the writing in this book reminds me of the "novel" I wrote when I was 13, which is a fun ego boost for my tween self, considering that this is Published. Classic example of why you are advised to "show, not tell" in writing, because this book is just a string of stage directions interspersed with vague, would-be inspiring one-liners about society. Also for as much as this book focuses on politics, the political stances of the candidate (who I guess is supposed to be Trump) and the protesters opposing him, are never elaborated on. It's clearly trying to comment on the 2020 protests, but the comparison is too on the nose to be insightful or interesting, and it rings false because we don't know what any of these people actually believe in or care about. also, the romance is uncompelling and the character dialogue is cringe inducing. don't be fooled by the cover art.

A near future dystopia for our fashy times.
