The Search for WondLa
Reviews

It's been quite sometime since I read Children's fantasy, and an even longer period since I came across one as good as The Search For WondLa! Summary: When a marauder destroys the underground sanctuary that Eva Nine was raised in by the robot Muthr, the twelve-year-year-old girl is forced to flee aboveground. Eva Nine is searching for anyone else like her: She knows that other humans exist because of an item she treasures—a scrap of cardboard on which is depicted a young girl, an adult, and a robot, with the strange word, “WondLa.” The one thing that really captivated me was the unique qualities of the book. The efforts exerted on it are very obvious. The title is intricate and frankly unheard of, the two-color illustrations are amazing (I've only seen DiTerlizzi's work from The Spiderwick Chronicles) plus the Augmented Reality freebie really brought out the child in me! The story was very exciting, and most of the books set in other planets only exist in the Young Adult sub-genre and the illustrations just make it more so! It's always a joy and a wonder to get introduced to new fantastical creatures and places like the ones I've seen here. The blend of the futuristic clothes and technology with the medieval setting creates a new layer of depth to the story. I couldn't say much about Eva Nine, but the supporting characters truly are colorful and clash wonderfully with her personality. The resolutions, the way the book wrapped up was very good, and I can;t wait to get my hands on the second installment.

This was exactly what I wanted it to be. An emensely interesting adventure novel, full of travel and marvelous characters. There was friendship and fear and a perfect amount of science and fantastical elements. Otto was my personal fave and also the hardy dash of main character development. It was a good long opening to what I expect to be a action packed series of fun and adventure. I'm so ready.

4.75 Stars Review to come

4.8 Stars This story was so GREAT! The concept behind this one was different and it almost reads like a mystery. There is so much adventure and action, it's hard to stop reading. And that's not even taking the artwork into account. The artwork in this book is beautiful, detailed, and imaginative. I enjoyed DiTerlizzi's writing style and his characterizations. Eva Nine especially was a very rounded out character. I can understand why those who loved her did everything they could to help her. The mysterious part of this is just trying to figure out why Eva Nine has never seen another human. The book brings up so many more questions that that and each one kinda throws your head for a spin. There were a couple of answers at the end, but still plenty more questions I want answers to. The worldbuilding! The creatures were so inventive. I loved the descriptions of the plants and animals and how they all coexisted. Rovee is a great character, I really enjoyed him. Otto as well! Otto was great!

Gorgeous illustrations
