I know the feeling of being embarrassed at your mom, hating her a bit too, while loving her so much and feeling utterly destroyed when she died way too soon, so I relate to the characters in this semi-autobiographical novel. So much felt familiar after reading Wild and that's not a bad thing. 3.5 stars.

DNF. Compared to many other books about loss, I just don’t think this book does a good job of describing loss or making the characters seem human. I didn’t finish simply because I was bored and felt zero connection to any of the characters.

Boring. Couldn't get into it. I was disappointed because I so enjoyed Wild.

I've read Strayed's other books so I felt compelled to read her first book. Overall I really liked it, it delt with a wide range of very important topics without being extremely overwhelming.
