  Suntem din nou în cafeneaua Funiculi Funicula, de pe o alee dosnică și întunecată din Tokyo, unde, dacă te așezi pe un anumit scaun și ți se toarnă o cafea anume pregătită, te poți întoarce în timp. Regulile au rămas aceleași. Cea mai importantă dintre ele este să-ți bei cafeaua înainte de a se răci, altfel nu te mai poți întoarce în prezent și rămâi suspendat între două dimensiuni temporale.

  De mai bine de o sută de ani, pe scaunul acela se așază clienții care vor să călătorească în timp. Întotdeauna vor exista oameni care vor vrea să revadă pe cineva care nu mai este și, chiar dacă prezentul nu mai poate fi schimbat, vor avea nevoie să se împace cu trecutul. Prin cafenea, se vor perinda de data aceasta bărbatul care vrea să-și întâlnească prietenul mort în urmă cu douăzeci și doi de ani, fiul care nu a ajuns la funeraliile mamei sale, bătrânul polițist care nu i-a oferit niciodată un cadou soției sale. De asemenea, vom cunoaște un tânăr care face călătoria din trecut în viitor, doar ca să se asigure că cei pe care îi va lăsa în urmă vor fi fericiți. În plus, vom afla misterul femeii cu rochie albă care ocupă de obicei scaunul destinat călătoriilor în timp.
