New favorite read! Wow, I devoured this book in less than 2 days, and now I'm just sad that it's over. I've never read a book quite like it, and I only wish I could experience it again. The author did an amazing job of telling the story and ending it perfectly. Highly recommend! Would love to see a movie made.

What a great story! Am I the only one who wishes they weren't rescued though? I thought is was much more romantic and exciting when they were on the island!

Stranded on an uninhabited island after their private plane crashes, thirty-year-old Anna Emerson and sixteen-year-old T.J. Callahan, her tutee, struggle to survive and, as the months pass, slowly fall in love.

As seen on Caity Reads.

I read this book in one sitting. I had picked the book up from the library earlier that day, and had been eyeballing it all day long. Even though I was already reading like four books at the time, I picked this up before bed one night. I did not stop reading the book until it was 6:30 in the morning and I had read the last page. I had heard so many fantastic things about it, through book blogs and booktube. That being said, I didn’t have huge expectations for it because of the relationship in it. If you are having doubts about this book because of the nature of the relationship in it, read the book anyway. I promise you it is not as bad as it sounds, and to me was completely understandable.

I absolutely loved Tracey Garvis Graves writing style. It was fast paced, and so incredibly emotional. I cannot wait to read more by her. There is also a novella that goes along with this story, even though it is a standalone. When I found out, I was instantly doing the grabby hands motion. Unfortunately, my library does not have a copy of the novella and I’m trying not to buy books right now. (Trying and failing miserably.)

Graves did a fantastic job of fleshing out our two main characters. They’re the only two we see for a good portion of the novel, and they felt so real. She did a very good job with the rest of the characters, later in the book; they also felt very real and had their own characteristics. As for the plot, I absolutely love survival stories; I’m a sucker for them, really. This was such a fast paced survival story and she did a fantastic job in executing the plot. She’s also very good at slapping you with the feels, which I enjoy.

Overall, I would definitely recommend this. Even if you’re a little hesitant to pick it up, you should. I was definitely pleasantly surprised by this book. I will be picking up a copy for myself as soon as I have the extra money to do so. I also really, really want to read the companion novella.

My fave romantic book!!!!! Love the story and the persons!!

“I don't fit in your world."
"Neither do I," he said, his expression tender yet resolute. "So let's make our own. We've done it before.”

I have never read a book quite like this before. I'm absolutely wowed. I knew from the minute I started reading it that I would love it. It sucked me right in. Nothing was really a surprise, but the journey was the important part and the journey was beautiful.

I'm not going to lie, I was a little put off by the thought of the age difference when I first read the blurb for this book. I wasn't sure if it would be something I would be comfortable reading about. It really wasn't an issue once I got immersed in the story. It wasn't creepy like I feared it might be.

I loved Anna and T.J. They were both wonderfully complex and likable characters. The epilogue was fantastic. I still want more of these characters and their lives.

::contented sigh::

In this runaway New York Times bestseller, a harrowing near-death experience brings together an English teacher and her student as they struggle to survive on a desert island. Sixteen-year-old T.J. Callahan has no desire to go anywhere. With his cancer in remission, all he wants is to get back to his normal life. But his parents insist that he spend the summer catching up on the school he missed while he was sick. Anna Emerson is a thirty-year-old English teacher who has been worn down by the cold Chicago winters and a relationship that’s going nowhere. To break up the monotony of everyday life, she jumps at the chance to spend the summer on a tropical island tutoring T.J. Anna and T.J. board a private plane headed to the Callahans’ summer home, but as they fly over the Maldives’ twelve hundred islands, the unthinkable happens: their plane crashes in shark-infested waters. They make it to shore, but soon discover they’re stranded on an uninhabited island. At first, their only thought is survival. But as the days turn to weeks, and then months, and as birthdays pass, the castaways must brave violent tropical storms, the many dangers lurking in the sea, and the worst threat of all—the possibility that T.J.’s cancer could return. With only each other for love and support, these two lost souls must come to terms with their situation and find compaionship in one another in the moments they need it most.
