The cheesiness keeps getting worse with each book. At one point I nearly gagged because of the overt preaching (as I stated in a previous review...there is no instance that I can possibly think of that would warrant the insertion of a partial or complete text of a sermon in a work of fiction). On top of that there was a completely cliché conversion to top it off. (The conversion wasn't sudden. It actually should have taken place at that particular point in the plot. The cheesiness came from the explanation of that conversion.)

In the end though, good storytelling won out. Although I wish that some of the characters, Heath Sloate for instance, hadn't been portrayed as stereotypically evil (seriously, it was almost Scooby Do villain bad) or good (for that matter), the plot was convincing and was told in a halfway decent manner.

Honestly, I'm not sure if I'll keep this series. It's really no fun to read a book that I have to keep from rolling my eyes at once or twice every couple chapters.
