I think this book was supremely excellent. Its been a long time since a book has adequately scared me, and this one sufficiently freaked me out. It took over an hour to fall asleep last night. I loved the unflinching way it showed Vietnamese history and culture. When phrases were said in Vietnamese, they were rarely translated, instead the emotion of what was said, the inference was left in the hands of the reader to figure it out. It was stunning and amazing.

I only deducted a half star because the ending felt extremely rushed and not given as much attention and patience as the rest of the book. Also there were other times where I felt like I missed something. As though one more read through would have been needed. To be fair, this was not a completed version that I read. So its entirely possible that both these issues could be fixed by publication.
