Honestly, probably my fave out of his novels! It’s not his usual cozy vibe, but it’s a great piece for the world he built. Kinda the opposite of Viv’s story which, and I like that aspect.

Legands and Lattes #3

Cosy fantasy is fast becoming one of my favourite genres.  The action and adventure are well crafted, the romance is these, just in the background and there are life lessons aplenty, all wrapped up in a great wee story.

Fern is a great protagonist.  She is foul mouthed, self-doubting, fears herself to be a coward but has a heart of gold and firm belief in the fulfilment of a good book! But a drunken walk ends with her taking on an epic adventure and making some friends (and enemies) along the way.

Fern is used to the humdrum life of the bookstore and she's feeling out of sorts.  The chance to see Viv once again and start a new life in Thune is something she can't ignore.  But she soon learns the grass isn't always greener and those pesky internal emotions follow no matter how far you travel.

With her new band of travelling companions: an Elf of legend, a Houdini like goblin, a talking aristocratic sword and a snarky bread knife - Fern learns more of what life is like out of the bookshop. I loved watching Fern and co gel together as a team and learn each other's strengths and weaknesses, leaning on each other.  The comedy is thick and the air is blue, oh, and there is a murder-chicken!

Learning to love yourself, embracing being older, not always wiser, and finding happiness where you can are important lessons embraced in the book. A fabulous addition to the series and I'm hoping we get more adventures with our warrior elf!
