Loved this graphic novel. It's a found family trope. It was such an amazing read, that I read it all in one sitting. love the characters and the writing, as well as the illustrations. Would 100% recommend.

Another Kind is a middle grade graphic novel following 6 magical kids, a selkie, a yeti, a wil-o'-the-wisp, an alien, a half-human-half-octopus-tentacle-monster, and a bear shapeshifter. They live at a government facility for their own protection and the protection of the unsuspecting humans, but when there's a breach of security and they're left stranded in the desert, they have to work together to find a place where they can finally be welcomed. 

This book features characters from all different backgrounds, genders and sexualities, with found family and breathtaking illustrations. I absolutely adored it, and I would go so far as to say it's one of my favourite books of this year. Each kid has been through a lot, and we get to read their backstories through flash backs, as well as watch them travel together road trip style. Everything about it was so adorable, except for the villain who was perfectly monstrous. I would describe Another Kind as a mixture of House on the Cerulean sea by T.J Clune, The Witch Boy by Molly Knox Ostertag, and Masterminds by Gordon Korman. If there was ever a graphic novel to read, this is the one. I feel like words can't fully encompass my love for this book.
