I want to issue a PSA to all authors of Christian fiction. There are other genres apart from 1880s American West and modern day Amish for you to choose from. I really do not understand the obsession. Yes the subject material is there. However, when everyone chooses the same material, the well runs dry quickly.
That being said, Goyer, by setting the novel in a "new" Amish setting of Montana, taps into a still viable vein of Amish Christian fiction. She did not deal with new themes in the genre but still manages to draw the reader in with engaging and believable characters and a compelling plot. She did a good enough job that I probably will read the rest of the books in the series.
