This book was not bad. However, the only thing that this book was good for was helping me get another book closer to making my reading goal for the year.
Unlike Goyer's other book series set in Montana Amish country, this book just sort of spun its wheels never really going anywhere through the entire narrative. The characters came together quickly. I actually wondered what more Goyer could possibly have to say about their story around a third of the way into the book. 
The narrative has no forward motion of its own. Goyer has to propel it forward, rather artificially. The events that separate the protagonists are resolved quickly before coming to the ultimate everything-works-out-perfectly-of-course ending. It wasn't quite gag-worthy sickly sweet (the ending) but it came pretty close.
Unlike the other series, I have no interest in reading the rest of the books in this series.
