It’s unbearable—the weight of his affection for someone else because it’s something that used to be mine. For a brief apocalyptic moment, I was the only thing in his existence, and then that life died, and I woke up in a world in which he occasionally visits but never stays.

Why do I do this to myself? It’s like emotional cutting. I slice a piece of my heart open and watch myself bleed, but unlike the times I’ve done it to my flesh, my heart never heals. It just shrivels up and dies, more and more.

Even when she said this in book one I was annoyed. She’s blatantly calling herself ignorant

“I only forgive him blindly. Only him. So pay attention to what you say to me.”

He’s always acting this way with me. Like I’m a snack he hasn’t had yet. It’s infuriating and addicting. I hate it, but like the fucking beggar I am, I’ll take it. Just not without disdain for myself.

“I wonder what a begging Caroline would sound like?” “You’ll never know.”

That’s the worst part of unrequited love—knowing you’re the fool and being unable to stop yourself.

“Right. So, do you remember Hunter? Hot lacrosse player at St. Simeon? He basically followed you around that whole party last summer.” A vision of a guy we met at some party in the Hamptons comes to mind, and I nod. “I think so… dark hair, sexy brown eyes, killer body.” “Thank you.” Grey smirks to himself, staring at his phone. “Perfect description of me.” “Crazy small dick energy—” I add. “Definitely not me, then,” he answers again, not looking up.

That’s when my doodles became art and a way for me to save all the details, the memories, the perfect fucking moments, forever.

He’s like an irritating fly buzzing around from girl to girl, making them laugh and allowing them to think they have a chance. It’s all a lie, bitches.

I’m fucking Gollum, and Liam’s my precious. I’m doomed to die in a cave on the Upper East Side, old and shriveled, obsessed over someone I can’t have. He’s turned me into an ugly troll.

“Well, one of us has to be the pretty one because you’ve cornered the market on mean.” I shrug, giving a chuckle—not a giggle because I’m not four—as I look up at him.

I want to plead, “Forgive me. I’m sorry. I’m scared if I lose you that I’ll never get even a glimpse of me anymore. You’re the only one that makes it all make sense. You’re the boy I love, and I’m desperate for you to look at me like you did before I ruined you.”

He offers me a delicious-looking cookie, but I shake my head, so he takes a bite out of it. If that were Liam, he’d make you eat it.

“I’m lost. What are we talking about?” Kai leans back, wiping his mouth with a napkin. “The secret performance… you asked when we’d find out who was playing, and I said—you know what, forget it. Where have you been this last hour? Because I’m almost certain that it’s still in the fucking hallway, gorgeous.”

“Yeah. I noticed. It was hard not to. What the fuck did Liam say now? Did he forget to say you were pretty? Or are we mad that he said you were pretty?”

“I know. So dumb. But at least you don’t have to be outside in the heat.” I’m rambling, feeling the words all sticking in my throat. “It’s the worst. It makes your balls all—” I catch myself, wrinkling my forehead. “I mean, it makes all the balls deflate. It ruins all the soccer balls. And the footballs.” I cringe on the inside. “All the balls.”

“So what? You’re like a slayer of dragons?” Just let me die. I laugh—at myself because I’m so embarrassing, but also hoping that she’ll join in. Caroline shakes her head. The line starts to move again, taking her in the opposite direction, so she looks over her shoulder. “No, Liam. I am the dragon.”

Holy shit. My god. I LOVED THIS BOOK. 
 
Thirty percent into it I knew I was going to be giving this 5 stars. I just couldn't not make it a 5 star read. Everything about it, the story, the characters, the pace, and how thoroughly fleshed out these characters are, was all just perfect. The main thing that REALLY shocked me was how much I love Caroline. Never in a million years did I ever think I would love Caroline Whitmore as much as I freaking do. I loathed her before reading this book. But, because we get a better understanding of who she really is in this book, it's understandable why she's such a mean and nasty person. Everything that she went through just absolutely resonated with me. I love Liam and Caroline! They’re like fire and water. They don’t mix well, but they definitely know how to calm each other, center one another and they really pull out their true selves with one another. I honestly did not expect to love this book as much as I do. This book is amazingly invigorating, kept me on my toes and truly pulled on my heartstrings. This book made me feel all the things and truly forced me to take my time while reading.
