Heartstopper: Volume 1

Alice Oseman

"Charlie, a highly-strung, openly gay over-thinker, and Nick, a cheerful, soft-hearted rugby player, meet at a British all-boys grammar school. Friendship blooms quickly, but could there be something more...?" -- back cover.

Heartstopper (Volume One)

it’s a special kind of literary magic to find a book that someone wrote because it's what their younger self needed, that your younger self needed just as much.

Boy meets boy. Boys become friends. Boys fall in love. An LGBTQ+ graphic novel about life, love, and everything that happens in between - for fans of the Art of Being Normal, Holly Bourne and Love, Simon. Absolutely delightful. Sweet, romantic, kind. Beautifully paced. I loved this book. RAINBOW ROWELL, author of Carry On Charlie and Nick are at the same school, but theyve never met . . . until one day when theyre made to sit together. they quickly become friends, and soon Charlie is falling hard for Nick, even though he doesnt think he has a chance. But love works in surprising ways, and Nick is more interested in Charlie than either of them realised. Heartstopper is about love, friendship, loyalty and mental illness. It encompasses all the small stories of Nick and Charlies lives that together make up something larger, which speaks to all of us. the queer graphic novel we wished we had at high school. Gay Times This is the first volume of Heartstopper, which has now been optioned for television by See-Saw Films.

Alice Olseman

Story is great. Charlie and Nick are the cutest. It's such a heartwarming story. I think I might not be into graphic novels though. But that's nothing to do with this piece of art.

It's a cute story for sure, but I think the comic could be drawn a little better, but that's maybe because I'm used to seeing more elaborate comic books, and this one feels like a rough draft for me.

The ending is not really the kind of ending that makes you want to get volume 2 immediately, so hence the 3 stars. A little meh.

ahh, heartstopper is still so beautiful and calming. reread it after 2 months and fell in love with nick and char all over again!!

Un chico conoce a otro. Los chicos se vuelven amigos. Y luego se enamoran.

Heartstopper

one of the more boring volumes. I mean... it's great that it's teaching young people the harder times of relationships and that not everything is as easy... but the characters should've acted more... not like asses lol, especially charlie. or at least they should've been held accountable for what they say.
anyway I feel like I outgrew heartstopper; when I first read it (including this volume, on webtoon) a year and a half ago it was still something I wanted to relate to, the friend group was literally the same as the one I had irl and so on, but nowadays I'm in uni, enjoying my peace and not really caring about first loves and sex etc.
yeah, it was okay, definitely not as sweet as I wanted it to be, charlie made me actually pretty mad and nothing really happened in those 400 or so pages.

Boy meets boy. Boys become friends. Boys fall in love. A sweet and charming coming-of-age story that explores friendship, love, and coming out. This edition features beautiful two-color artwork. "Absolutely delightful. Sweet, romantic, kind. Beautifully paced. I loved this book." -- Rainbow Rowell, author of Carry On
