Twisted Hearts

Cora Reilly2020
Savio Falcone has a few non-negotiable rules when it comes to girls. They need to be hot as f*ck.Spread their legs without much prompting. And leave as soon as the fun is over. Preferably minus any bitching or tears. With his easy-going bad boy attitude, a last name that rules over Las Vegas and a body to die for, girls have always been at Savio's disposal.Unfortunately, the hottest girl in Vegas comes with a price Savio isn't willing to pay. For Savio to get Gemma he'd need to seal the deal and put a ring on her finger. Settling down is out of the question, no matter how hot a piece of ass waits at the altar.Gemma Bazzoli has had a crush on Savio from the first moment she came face to face with his arrogant smile, but for him she was always his best friend's annoying little sister-until her hard-earned curves catch even his attention. But Savio likes it easy, and Gemma is anything but. When she's promised to another man, Gemma resigns herself to the fact that the man she's wanted all her life, doesn't want her badly enough.Savio has to decide how much work he's willing to invest, because bending the rules in his usual style might not be enough to get the girl that haunts his wet dreams.- Can be read as a standalone-

SO DISAPPOINTED OF SAVIO, HATE HIM IN THIS BOOK. PERIOD.

it feels like he wanted gemma just to show off that he could get her anyhow his way, my heart hurts for gemma. she deserves so much good things in her life.

hope savio gets his karma.

Who would’ve ever thought The Bull can’t be tame? I was taking my time with Savio but his way of romance is something sweetly different and I love it!

** ARC received in exchange for an honest review ** I’ve been an active reader of Cora Reilly’s mafia themed books ever since (Born in Blood Mafia Chronicles, #1) was released back in 2014. I loved it and the wait for every new installment was killing me. Then there was the two-year hiatus after Bound by Vengeance came out. At that point I had given up on the series. I went back to Cora’s books some time in 2018, after Twisted Loyalties (The Camorra Chronicles #1) and it was like there was no gap between the books at all. I instantly fell in love with the Camorra and the Falcone clan. So, understandably, I’ve re-read Twisted Emotions and Twisted Pride a thousand times. And maybe I really got my hopes up for Savio’s book. We first (and before Twisted Hearts, only then?) meet Gemma in Twisted Emotions: “The door to the kitchen opened again. An plump woman and a girl around thirteen or fourteen with long dark hair and startling olive eyes came through it, each carrying a tray with pastries, bread, and cheese. The girl was a bit of a tomboy, and her eyes narrowed when she spotted me. She set down the tray in the center of the table. “Who’s this?” she asked curiously, nodding in my direction. The woman made a shush noise. “I’m Kiara, Nino’s wife,” I said, and she relaxed. Her eyes darted to Savio, and I knew why she’d been wary of me. “So, Savio,” she said. “When are you going to fight me as you promised?” “I never promised anything,” Savio said with a smirk. “Gemma, stop bothering him. Savio doesn’t have time to play around with annoying little girls,” Diego muttered. She reached over the table and punched his shoulder. He tried to grab her, but she dashed away before he could, poking her tongue out at him. Then with a last smile at Savio, she slipped through the kitchen door. I was relieved to see that not everyone in Vegas was terrified of the Falcones.” - Kiara, Chapter 11, Twisted Emotions Gemma is Diego’s (who’s one of Savio’s best friends, and a soldier of the Camorra) younger sister. And she’s been in love with Savio ever since she met him. Most of the time, I loved Gemma. I very much like girls who want to fight and who are not afraid of breaking a nail. The rest of the time I was actually really annoyed by her. She spends years, literally, years, pinning after Savio, and being rejected time after time. Savio, on other hand… He was simply annoying me. All of the time. Yes, I know he’s s man-ho. Yes, I expected him to keep this up, but not that freaking much. And Gemma? She mostly takes it in like it’s no big deal. Romance? There was so. very. little. of it. I feel like Savio went from I-only-wanna-fuck-her to she’s-my-queen-I-love-her in just a few paragraphs. Which, I believe is what actually happened. I believe we saw more romance from the other couple in the book than the main characters. Overall, it was a good book. It’s not a book that I’d re-read (or want to) any time soon, though.

solo leí este libro porque todavía no quiero soltar a los falcone y las breves apariciones de los demás miembros de la familia me dieron mil años de vida.

0 stars. literally the worst thing i’ve ever read in my entire life savio was annoying, gemma was annoying, diego was annoying, her whole damn family was so annoying. gemma was made out to be this tough as shit girl in the previous books but she’s actually the weakest out of all the camorra girls. shaking and crying bc a man doesn’t want to marry her and STILL continuing to chase him ?? like she’s so embarrassing i need her to shut up and never open her mouth ever again. and savio just sucked idk what else to say 🤨 the love confession felt so random like when ?? did he ?? fall in love ?? he spent the entirety of their engagement in a different city or fucking his way through vegas and then spends the first 2 months of their marriage trying to get in her pants and watching cage fights. when did the love happen i’m confused ? they had absolutely no chemistry. gemma just had a silly little childhood crush on him & savio was horny like u can’t convince me they’re in love or that they’ll stay happily married for the rest of their lives. if one of cora’s ships ever got divorced, it’d be them. the only parts i enjoyed were the fabileona ninokiara and remofina crumbs w their kids. don’t understand how cora could give me ninokiara and then write this atrocity of a book. savio will never be the best falcone brother and gemma will never be as excellent as kiara leona or serafina 🤷🏻‍♀️

I cannot start this review without expressing how sad I felt watching Savio, a character that I initially didn't like but grew to like a lot during the 2nd, 3rd and 4th book, being completely destroyed for me. And don't get me wrong, I absolutely knew how much of a player he was, ever since the beginning, but his attitude towards Gemma? There's no excuse for it. Putting myself in such a world of mafia, and accessing their "values" or traditions, I do understand that men are way too possessive and women don't usually have much to say in pretty much anything, even if it's their own life. However (view spoiler)[when Savio challenged Mick for Gemma's hand, I was so hoping he would a grown up and, if not for his feelings for Gemma or responsabilities, he would act correctly out of fear for Remo. (hide spoiler)] And honestly, from that moment on, it was down the hill for him as a character, but also for Gemma. I was happy to see some restraint and even when she challenged him but it's not only until something major happens that things changed. After they got together, I was very happy with her decision to make him "earn" for her, but it was obviously how things were going to end. Nevertheless, after the wedding, things started to get so much better between them and I started liking Savio a little again. I like their friendship and their dynamic but I feel like it could've been so much better. Still, that final chapter was so good. Raw and just so them. 2.5 stars overall.

This re-read made me seriously question why I only gave it four stars last time, this one is tied (maybe even a touch above 👀) with Twisted Pride as my favorite Cora book. I won’t lie I think I let other peoples opinions of these books dictate my own feelings on them to the point that I convinced myself that this one wasn’t as good as like Twisted Bonds (which if you saw my last review I didn’t love as much as I told myself I did🤡) which personally Twisted Hearts is just sooo good with such uniquely done, and paired characters🥺

worst H and most annoying h of this entire series so far. the relationship development or chemistry between the characters? they must have had like 5 interactions in the first 70% of the book, and half of those were gemma asking savio when they were gonna get engaged and when they were gonna get married, meanwhile savio kept fucking every woman he encountered. that's it. the book even seemed to be more about diego and savio than gemma and savio. savio was such a selfish and childish hero that only wanted to 'own' (his words) the heroine because he found out she was promised to another guy. he suddenly develops any interst in her once he sees her in skin-tight jeans and a crop top. legit the only thing savio wanted was to get her in bed, THAT'S IT. disgusteng. and i've already said this with aria, i HATE when authors make their heroines be these virginal, pure, innocent completely naive women. at least aria had some personality but this one? ugh gemma was the epitome of that trope. extremely one-dimensional with no personality whatsoever, the only thing that she kept saying was how much she couldn't stop thinking about savio (god knows why cause he was legit an asshole). and the fact that he only changed his whorish ways because some tragedy strikes gemma and he thinks he lost her was ridiculous and so so cheap. i couldn't care less about them to be honest, i mean even REMO treated his heroine better, and that's saying a lot since the dude literally kidnapped her on the day of her wedding and held her captive for months. this book was just a mess.

** spoiler alert ** 1.5 stars | spoilers included to be honest, the description of the book should have warned me already. toxic masculinity is pretty prominent in most of the books of this kind of trope and to a certain level, i can deal with it or at least find it a little bit entertaining but this one was really..... something else. first of all, savios and diegos man-h0e behaviour paired with the constant surveillance and judgement of every one of gemmas moves made me soooo angry. i mean i get it, the camorra is ruled by structures of patriarchy in reality to this very day but i wanted to throw up in mouth while reading because gemma NEVER criticizes the structures or at least overthinks them. missed a huge opportunity to make the book a lot more enjoyable there. and what kind of love can it be when 1. savio only gets engaged to gemma to claim her but has no intention of changing is own behaviour and 2. when one spouse needs to almost die to stop the other from fVcking around? in conclusion: savio officially earned the title of being my most hated book-boyfriend/husband and ticked off every single red flag / toxic behavior box existing on this planet. i can only hope the next book(s) of the series will be better.
