RE-READ: Sept. 11, 2017 EDIT "So I stepped away, reminding myself that when you're a spy, sometimes all you can do is go on. One foot in front of the other, wherever the narrow path might lead.” You know the series is a keeper when the last book leaves you in an emotional train wreck. For me, the Gallagher Girls marked as my starting point to the world of books. I read books before I did read this series (that's why I discovered it), but I wouldn't call myself an avid reader that time. From time to time, I did read, but my love for books did not grow until that time I read I'd Tell You I Love You, But Then I'd Have To Kill You. It's not Harry Potter, or Percy Jackson, or whatever other famous series out there that made almost everyone in the book community fall in love. But it means the world to me. Believe it or not, reading it again has made me realize that I actually have learned a ton of things from this series. And there's even a big aspect of female friendship centering the story (and is my absolute favorite in the world), which I did not know I would hold so dearly today. The story of this series is far from complex, the writing is straightforward and not at all extravagant, but the characters and the things that I learned from them mean the whole world to me and this is why this series is a winner. I, to put it simply, loved this series with all my heart. I always will. "Turns out, you can take the girl out of the spy school, but you can never take the spy school out of the girl.” ps on a side note, i still have no idea which book from the series i loved the most. is it this one or is it the fifth book??? idk so i'm just gonna put those two up as number one. 1. United We Spy and Out of Sight Out of time my second most favorite is definitely only the good spy young, third one is don't judge a spy by her cover, fourth one is cross my heart and hope to spy, and the last one (but definitely not the least) is i'd tell you i love but then i'd have to kill you. one of the best things about this series is how each book progresses. there's so much to the story and it never deteriorated, it just kept on getting better and better. “What is a Gallagher Girl?" Liz asked one final time. "She's a genius, a scientist, a heroine, a spy. And now we are at the end of our time at school, and the one thing I know for certain is this: a Gallagher Girl is whatever she wants to be.” ------------------------------------- PROS AND CONS OF REREADING A SERIES THAT YOU COMPLETELY LOVE AND TREASURE IN YOUR HEART PRO: It brings back a feeling of nostalgia. PRO: It makes you remember how much you actually love this series. PRO: It makes you realize that even though you've read other series that are more complex and better than this one, you still love LOVE it! CON: Reading the last book feels like the series just recently ended even though the series was already finished years ago. CON: Which means there's going to be a lot of tears shed in the last book. CON: Which means there's a lot of crying. CON: A lot. Full review to come. When I'm emotionally stable lmao awnejsjsj

I LOVE the series! Can't believe it ended :'((( The only complaint was that I wanted more! More Cammie and Zach! Wished there was a longer epilogue like 20 years later . . .

The attachment I feel towards this series is more than I originally remembered. I hated it when it ended because it felt too painful to let the characters go! I love how emotionally attached I was to the whole cast of main characters. I really and truly loved reading these books again and I suspect that I may do it again for the rest of my life. What an amazing world!

The end of the series....I really needed the closure and that is exactly what I got. Thank you Ally Carter, for taking me on such a wonderful spy-tastic journey 🙌

** spoiler alert ** Such a conflicting ending to what is, overall, a pretty good series. I think that the last two books could probably have been melded together into one longer than average. The first 2/3 of this book feels slow, which is quite bizarre because there certainly is a fair amount of action, but the things that Cammie & Co. get up to don't seem to lead them anywhere. It's only during the last third of the book that I really couldn't bear to put it down because everything comes crashing down at once. It makes so much sense that the battle would come full circle back to Gallagher Academy and I can't believe I didn't see that coming. It definitely felt more political this time around (which is saying something because the entire third book is about politics), but I have trouble picturing the idea of these teenagers being successfully on the run and evading capture so many times. I understand they are trained spies, but so are the people trying to catch them. It's also a bit unbelievable that they would be able to essentially waltz into such a high-security facility like they did, especially when so much emphasis is placed on how secret and well-contained the place is supposed to be. I felt the characters and their characteristics and development suffered a bit during this book though, as if they were tossed aside in favor of the plot trying to make any sense. Bex, Liz, Macey, and Zach all didn't seem to be fully themselves as they were set up to be in the first few books. I understand they have all gone through stuff, but even Cammie seemed off. I still think Preston's involvement is strange and awkward. We did get a nice conclusion though, and I did enjoy the twist of having Gallagher Academy actually burn down. What was the point of having Agent Townshend being revealed as Zach's father though? It didn't seem to serve a purpose other than to make us hate Catherine more, and we really don't need help with that. I definitely enjoyed the detail about what all the characters are doing after graduation. It felt like we came full-circle after sticking around with them for six books - even though we only got a hint at what Cammie and Zach are doing, but I don't mind too much. While certainly slow for a good part of the book, I liked the conclusion and wrap-ups of the plot (which to be honest seemed almost impossible), and I do feel this a worthy ending to one of my favorite series' as a teenager.

Originally posted at Booklovers For Life I can’t believe the Gallagher Girls series is over. I just never expected it to come… so soon. I always kind of thought that this series would never end, you know? It’s been going on for so long (7 YEARS!!) that I never expected Cammie and the gang’s story to finally come to its conclusion. But I honestly could not have hoped for a better ending than the one Ally Carter gives us with United We Spy. It was everything I expected and more. I still remember lil ol’ middle schooler me going into Target and seeing this kickass book about girls who are SPIES, and thinking, Oh gosh, I have GOT to read that book! And can you believe this was back in 2006?!? I was still just a kid back then when the first book released, and now I’m only a few months away from turning 18 and the Gallagher Girls series is ending. It’s like marking the end of my childhood. And I couldn’t help but feel just a little bit heartbroken after finishing United We Spy. The series has been with me for so long, and it was like saying goodbye to a childhood friend. Let me first start by saying that I LOVED this book with all of my heart. It was absolutely incredible. Ally Carter goes all out and holds nothing back, and if you haven’t read this yet, you are in for the ride of your life. Page after page is full of intense action, stunning revelations, unveiled secrets, and, of course, a sweet, heartfelt romance (can’t forget about that!). It’s Cammie’s senior year at the Gallagher Academy for Exceptional Young Women, and Ally Carter does a wonderful job of writing about Cammie’s anxiety for the future. It’s her last year of high school, of attending a school that is, for all intents and purpose, her home. And she’ll be leaving pretty soon. To what or where, well, who knows? She has no idea what’s in store in her future, whether or not she’ll even have a future. The Circle of Cavan is still after her, and Cammie and Zach and Bex and Liz and Macey all take their futures into their own hands and… well, you’ll have to read and find out! The best part about this book was the fact that everyone has grown up. Cammie is an adult now, and she has to make adult decisions. She has to take everything seriously now, because there are no tests anymore. It’s the real world, with real bad guys, and sometimes it’s a matter of life and death. Her gang looks up to her, so Cammie’s choices don’t just affect her, they affect everyone she loves. But she grows to learn that she can handle taking charge, that she can handle anything she sets her mind to do. After all, she is a Gallagher Girl. “What is a Gallagher Girl? She’s a genius, a scientist, a heroine, a spy… a Gallagher Girl is whatever she wants to be.” Catherine, Zach’s mother, is a fascinating villain. I hate her, but I just love how well created her character is. To have her as the mother of Zach… It’s pretty crazy, because she’s pretty crazy. We find out some pretty heavy stuff about her, none of which i ever expected. So be ready for some SHOCKING twists! And Zach… *sighs dreamily* Well, United We Spy is the most romantic book, in my opinion, of the series. ;) Cammie and Zach love each other. Their love is solid and still going strong–you know it and you can feel it. Zach is perfect for Cammie, because he sees her, the real her, even though she’s the Chameleon. With these two, you no that no matter what life throws at them, they’ll make it to the end. I was nearly in tears at the end of the book. Because… it’s over. *cries* The Gallagher Girls series is well and truly over. But the series ends so perfectly well that there’s nothing I wish would change about ending. If you bought a copy of United We Spy, then you know there’s a special little extra at the back of the book. And OH MY GOD, it is THE. BEST. So go! Buy the book. Read the book. You won’t regret it. 5 stars! It’s now one of my all-time favorite books ever. Liked this review? Subscribe to Booklovers For Life for more!
