i love it when women use rich white men to get to where they want to be.

Listened to this one as an audio book and the reader was excellent. She really brought the main character to life. This was an entertaining story. None of the developments in the plot are unexpected, but sometimes there can be a kind of comfort in a well written but predictable read. Will definitely be checking out other titles by this author.

There is no doubt that Silvia Moreno-Garcia is a hell of a writer. Loved the mood and the Patricia Highsmith subtle inspiration here. The first half is suspenseful and truly a page turner. The second, uhm not so much. Implausible choices from the main characters, too convenient resolutions, Viridiana becomes a cypher and so stone cold we can’t feel empathy for her troubles anymore. The ending was predicable all along but somehow rushed and out of character. Yes and no book for me.

Everyoner has dreams and everyone wants to make something of themselves. Viridiana wants out of the village she lives in. There's not much to do. It feels like a dead end for her and her family is set on her to marry a guy she doesn't love just because it's convinient. She doens't want what her mom has. To marry and have kids and just work at a small store. She has bigger dreams and she wants it bad.  I really liked this story because it shows how Viridiana manage to "grow" in order to move ahead. Seems like those American tourists did teach her what you got to do to move up. It's a pretty cool thriller I got into and having the culture similarites, it was nice to read more about a latina protagonist.  This was a pretty fast pace novel in my opinion. Definitely worth 5 out 5 stars and I would really recommend this for everyone because it does have that touristy kinda vibes if you are looking for a good book to take on your next getaway.

Another fabulous novel by the talented Silvia Moreno-Garcia. Everyone of her novels so far has been exceptional. Now an auto-read author for sure.
