A solid 3.5 stars! The original ‘Andromeda Strain’ was one of the formative books of my youth and this is a fine successor. It’s been a while since I read the original so I could be wrong, but it seems like this has almost too much scientific rigour; there are passages where I felt like I wanted it to just move past the technical details and musings and get to the action. But I love the concepts!

The book starts off strong, feeling like a mix of The Andromeda Strain, Congo, and a little bit of Jurassic Park and Sphere. Then the entire book abc ages into a realm of ridiculousness and stupidity. 4 stars to the first half of the book, 1/2 star to the last half.

Not extremely thrilling at first (and my start date is way off) but picked up the pace and had me finishing at 1:30 in the morning
