To be fair, I didn't read the whole thing, I just read the new 150ish pages. 

The first and last were my favorites of the four. I'm sad we didn't get to see the version of Tasha from The Turn and The Flame before book 6. It would have made me like her more. I had a hard time sympathizing with her after the events of book 6. And Hello, My Name Is Rose Hathaway was great. Good old fun Vampire Academy stuff. From the Journal of Vasilisa Dragomir was good but since it was just journal entries it wasn't earth shattering or anything. If you had issues with the whole Lissa and self-harm thing, I'd recommend you skip it. The Meeting was super, super short but did give you a short view of Dimitri perspective.

Slightly juvenile, but so much fun and full of awesome characters. I really enjoyed Mead's world of Vampires and their lore, including the different classifications of vampires and their protectors. I found this very unique, and I enjoyed that Mead wasn't afraid to imbue sensuality and sexuality into some of the aspects of Vampirism, including feedings. Mead definitely isn't afraid to push the envelope here, and this is SO refreshing considering the Bella/Twilight effect. No hidden Mormon agenda here.
The two main ladies, Rose and Lissa have a great relationship structure, often rare in the YA world, and I can't wait to see how their guardian relationship grows as the series continues. I was also glad to see realistic handling of boy/girl relationships, and an acknowledgment that these characters are HIGH SCHOOLERS - and that they should date around. Jeez.

Une héroïne bad-ass et téméraire, des vampires, un complot pour renverser le pouvoir, un lycée privé avec camp d’entraînement magie/combat. Franchement, c'est une recette presque parfaite.

Cette série est tellement connue que je ne sais pas quoi ajouter d'autre. Alors je vais juste vous donner mon ressenti rapidement : 
- J'ai détesté Lissa. Je l'ai trouvé faible, et hautaine à la fois. Tellement égoïste dans ses réactions face à Rose. Oui je sais qu'elle s'inquiète pour elle à sa façon mais elle n'a aucune conscience de ce que Rose vie. 
- La romance interdite m'a dérangée. Je ne l'ai pas trouvé du tout intense et même plutôt fade.
- La partie à l'école est bien rythmée, les actions s'enchaînent facilement et le tout se lit très vite.
- C'est une lecture sympa, simple et sans prise de tête. On passe un bon moment mais il ne faut pas en attendre grand chose de plus. Parfait pour alterner avec les grosses lectures fantasy :)

I didn’t realize how much I’d missed this story, these characters, this series until I’d started my first re-read in nearly five years. Richelle Mead crafted a story that most book lovers just can’t resist, me being one of them.

Rose and Lissa are best friends who’d do anything to protect and save each other. They both had been in a horrific accident that had taken the lives of Lissa’s parents and brother Andre, leaving her an orphan and the next heir to the Moroi throne after Queen Tatiana. This book started out with Rose and Lissa being on the run from the officials at their boarding school St. Vladimir’s. Because Lissa is royalty, she is deemed irreplaceable. However, Rose is determined to keep her away from St. Vladimir’s, but it doesn’t exactly go to plan when Dimitri Belikov, a highly trained and talented Dhampir guardian shows up and hands her her butt.

I loved the way Mead plotted out this entire story. It keeps you on the edge of your seat and enamored the entire time, almost as if you were under someone’s compulsion. There are scenes of action, scenes of romance, many scenes of drama and disparity, but altogether, they provide you with an amazing reading experience and a burst of uncontrollable emotions.

Along with that, I really do think she did a fantastic job on character development. Rose never once lost her sarcastic or headstrong ways (love that in main characters), and if anything, she grew from being impulsive into being careful and cunning. If I were Lissa, I’d be grateful I had someone so dedicated and unnervingly caring about me.

While this book does feature a teacher X student romance with about seven years between the two, I think Richelle did handle the situation pretty nicely. Dimitri is fairly adamant about not being with Rose, even if he is attracted to her, because of the age gap between them, along with the responsibility and untethered-life it takes to be a Dhampir guardian.

This book is pretty heavy, don’t get me wrong. There are a lot of aspects to it that someone would either love or hate, but for me, I loved nearly everything about it. The only thing I wasn’t the biggest fan of were the assumed ending and the actual ending of the story. In both, Mead had a tendency to summarize instead of just leave it open-ended for the sequel to pick up at, and it kind of disappointed me a bit. Summarized endings are my biggest reading pet-peeve, y’all.

But other than that, I thoroughly enjoyed this book as much as I did when I first read it. For that, I rate it 4.75 stars. I look forward to continuing my reread of the series and hope that the other books live up to the memories I have like this one.
